The big advantage of getting Zeebo is there are only two years of his deal left, which is the same as KG's and gives us a large expiring contract in 2014.
I do not see 2 years and done as an advantage. I want someone who will stick around and contribute for a while.
This is the biggest thing for me.
No more picking up veterans for the "last run." I don't want to take a freakin' last run. I want to keep winning.
That's the problem with Terry's contract; as a veteran ring chaser, he should be playing for the minimum. He's being paid like a key piece. Apparently, he fell off a cliff pretty quickly, or Ainge made a mistake.
Either way, there is no reason to give the full MLE or spend big money for an old player any longer.
I guess the argument is that while we still have 2 All Star caliber players, we must try our best to get the best result while we have them.
Put it this way..
#KG has 2 years
#Bass has 2 years
#terry has 2 years
#Rondo has 2 years
#lee has 3 years
#Bradley has 1 year..(maybe 2?)
We have a solid core and the money tied up for 2 years. Which kinda sux but also means its really hard to stay 'young' and keep winning.
I mean you dont have to call it one last run.
Moving Pierce means we are doing it for a shot at a title. Its easy to say lets get ready for the future but we have KG, Rondo and Jeff Green NOW, with the oppurtunity to add another All Star caliber piece to this core. Who knows when we'll have another core like this?
We must do whatever we can to win now while we have 3-4 potential All Star caliber players.
