Wouldn't Bass and Lee and the China 3 and a future first rounder get it done. Let's face it, the team doing the sign and trade don't usually get great deals when they do sign and trades because usually the UFA can just sign elsewhere and leave his old team with nothing. This trade gets them an excellent back up PF and a role playing starting caliber SG which they really need as Alec Burks, who they see very high on, still needs time to develop.
Utah has the ability to get way below the cap. I don't think they'd sacrifice that cap flexibility to take on $30 million in contracts for two mediocre players.
A future #1 might be somewhat enticing, since the Celts are likely to go through a rebuilding process at some stage. Bass and Lee are basically worthless to a team in Utah's situation, though.
I wouldnt be so sure of that Roy. Yeah the cap flexibility is good for making trades but Utah is Utah and let's face it, players from the NBA aren't dying to sign in Utah. Favors and Kanter are their starters now. They will need a back up forward. They need SG. And they don't need other teams problems, which is about all they will be getting in trades that have them sending out a trade exemption for an already signed player.
If they do this trade they have some cost stability, they still have a lot of cap space and they won't have to severely overpay free agents to come thereto fill roles that they can get in this trade. Having a ton of cap space is great but if players don't want to play there, it does very little. Charlotte has the same problem. Why go to a crap team in an area not condusive to the lifestyles of most NBA players.
