Wouldn't Bass and Lee and the China 3 and a future first rounder get it done. Let's face it, the team doing the sign and trade don't usually get great deals when they do sign and trades because usually the UFA can just sign elsewhere and leave his old team with nothing. This trade gets them an excellent back up PF and a role playing starting caliber SG which they really need as Alec Burks, who they see very high on, still needs time to develop.

Utah has the ability to get way below the cap.  I don't think they'd sacrifice that cap flexibility to take on $30 million in contracts for two mediocre players.

A future #1 might be somewhat enticing, since the Celts are likely to go through a rebuilding process at some stage.  Bass and Lee are basically worthless to a team in Utah's situation, though.
I wouldnt be so sure of that Roy. Yeah the cap flexibility is good for making trades but Utah is Utah and let's face it, players from the NBA aren't dying to sign in Utah. Favors and Kanter are their starters now. They will need a back up forward. They need  SG. And they don't need other teams problems, which is about all they will be getting in trades that have them sending out a trade exemption for an already signed player.

If they do this trade they have some cost stability, they still have a lot of cap space and they won't have to severely overpay free agents to come thereto fill roles that they can get in this trade. Having a ton of cap space is great but if players don't want to play there, it does very little. Charlotte has the same problem. Why go to a crap team in an area not condusive to the lifestyles of most NBA players.

I would love if Boston could snag Hayward away from them. If we end up with Millsap i'll be happy but still would rather have Al jefferson or Josh Smith. So we'll see. This is good news though. Danny knows he needs to make moves and it looks like he is going to do so.

Also how come people think this means Pierce is out?

So, how would we get him here?  I'm not seeing a realistic sign-and-trade.
Only option I see is Jeff Green. If Utah want him.

I would be all for that.

Bass and Bradley might work ? maybe we get a 2nd rd pick back?

I don't see Utah having any interest in Bass or having anywhere near enough interest in Avery Bradley to part with Paul Millsap.

I think Bass will be viewed as dead weight. They have three vastly superior big men who will eat up almost all of the available minutes. No need to pay your fourth big $7 million a year.

Bass has been an important playoff player for the Celtics for 2 years. He doesn't have a bad contract. If they want to get rid of him and can't trade him for decent value then bad on danny

Also, exactly who is this third vastly superior player in the frontcourt for Utah? I didn't know Al Jefferson was guaranteed to re-sign with the Jazz.

This makes me hate David West more he's basicslly a clone of Milsap (probably better) and we could have had him for 2 years maybe more.

So frustrating how things can work out or not work out. Being a gm must suck
Didn't it come down to them paying him more?

But does replacing Bass with Millsap (which is a substantial upgrade, no doubt) offset the difference between Green and whatever other backup SF we could get?

Mikael Pietrus?  ;)

Asked what Plan A would be for the Celtics, she said Millsap

Also said she expects KG back for another year...

Utah Needs guards, have to assume it would be centred around Bradley... I'm a fan of Millsap but who knows what it would take to get a deal done.

To me , I rather see what we have in Sully as a starter...

We did see what we have in Sully last year, an out of shape forward with a bad back that only lasted half a season ???

Give me Millsap!

Truthfully, this may be the most ignorant and wrong-headed assessment of Sullinger's rookie season that I have seen.

Name all the great backup SFs in the league.

If you can move your backup SF and get a starting big man of this quality (and it fills a position of great need), you pull the trigger.

He did get the one part right that screams out not to go into the season with expectations of 30+ minutes a night for 82 games plus the playoffs out of Sully

I do not trust players who have had any type of back issues.  There has to be in place ways to limit the amount of time the back is going to have game level stress on it so the talent is there long time.

Millsap would be fantastic. A top ten PF in the league.

Keep Sully in a bench role. Bring in a useful backup center. Strong big man rotation.

I'm for dis plan

I like Milsap but I just dont think he is much of a drastic upgrade over Bass. I would rather see Sully start over Milsap. We need big center alongside KG. WHat's the infatuation with another undersized big man.

I think you're underestimating Millsap.  He is much better around the rim and rebounding than Bass is.
