Darko was just another in a long line of European players that are marginal NBA players and decent European players that will go from the NBA back home and then back and forth. A lot of these guys do it. They miss being home or around family or their own culture and language.

Unless you are a superstar that decides to stay here, a lot of these Euro guys are going to wander back and forth.

Darko is marginal NBA talent. He might have helped but think of it this way: if he really left to go home to take care of his mom, then, if he had stayed, his mind clearly would not have been here and his performance would have suffered.

If, however, he left because he wasn't getting playing time, what does that say about him as a professional and is that the type of guy you would want hanging around this team influencing the other young talent on the team? Remember, not every young mind gravitates to the "KG is great and I need his mentoring" philosophy. Many could be turned off by KG and looked to be influenced, consciously or not, by other people. I would rather they gravitate to Doc or Pierce or someone else rather than someone like Darko, if he is the type of guy to quit on a team and a professional contract because he wasn't doing enough for the coach to give him playing time.

If Darko left because Doc wasn't giving him playing time, I think that says mountains more negative things about Darko than it does Doc.

Small ball as a full time thing officially sucks.

In related news, Noah is a beast. Indy and Chi going big and giving good teams a tough time. The fact that we never try going has me relieved the season is over. Tough to watch.

Nazzi Mohammad getting minutes. Darko coulda been a useful piece for us, no question about it.

I'm firmly convinced that players who don't have the mental makeup to handle some time on the bench are ultimately too fragile to be able to be difference makers in the long run.

Also not particularly a fan of players who have to spend their news conferences explaining why they sucked.

Doc should have played Darko more -- the need for a legitimate center was glaringly apparent -- but I doubt his presence would have changed the outcome of our season.

But you're absolutely right, Doc isn't shy about putting guys into his doghouse.  Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is probably in the eye of the beholder.

i mean, if we're playing that what if game, then it's completely unfair to not look at the other side of the argument.
Darko playing decent minutes at Center could have meant KG doesn't reinjure that nagging injury. Or it means that KG at the 4 is a whole different lineup. Or it means that in the game s where we lost by 1-5 pts, Dark coulda contributed and thusly, we couldve been a higher seed with a more favorable matchup in the playoffs.

It was printed in todays Herald that Darko officially left because of NO playing time....so doc puts kg at CENTER..where he said he DOESN'T want to play....has a good center..doesn't play him at all....then look at Nate Robinson...playing great....sat out here....Tony Allen starter for Memphis....he sat a lot here..perkins.....all players all over the league that SAT here....go on to become impact players under different rule......We had no reason to lose darko, TA, Nate.....
Perkins sat a lot here? Perhaps youve been watching OKC games.

From 10/30/2012, the beginning of the season:

Quote
Darko chose Celtics instead of Miami

"Speaking to WEEI.com after the Celtics' practice at TD Garden Sunday, Darko Milicic explained that the Miami Heat expressed interest in signing the 27 year-old in the offseason, but Milic didn't deem such a move as a good fit.

"They were interested but they had guys they had before, big guys. It wasn't something I was looking for, especially signing the minimum contract," said Milic, who inked a one-year deal with the Celtics. "I was trying to find somebody who really needed me in some way. My agent told me they were interested, but they were interested just to have me on the bench. I would have been the last guy on the bench. If one of the big guys got some foul trouble I would go in and fight some of those guys. That would be my job. Traveling all the way from Serbia, bringing my kids, that's not me, that's not what I wanted to do.

"In the last second Boston came out, which I was surprised about. They were really serious about me. I know I'm a minimum player right now, but that doesn't really matter. I'm going to do help these guys, whatever I need to do to bring a title back here. Whatever they tell me to do. If they tell me to fight that guy, I'll go fight that guy. Just help them in some way, whatever way it is. I know Miami is a good team and a champion, but Boston has a history. You can't say no to Boston."

I wish Darko would have stayed. A lot of people disrespect that man but when I look back at tha training camp and pre-season games, He could have turned out a solid back-up for KG.

He showed positive signs. He was 'Celtic'. I just wish he hadn't walked away. That's one of my very few issues with Doc is that he barely played him. Maybe we can get him back tho.

don't go thinking that players around the league don't already KNOW about docs ways....Darko knew his whole season would be probably benched...he must have been rebounding.....omg..! He is only 27.....we could have had a YOUNG decent CENTER...all locked up....Green, Rondo, darko, KG.....pp, maybe both kg and pp playing off then bench.....mentoring.....Bradley, twill....we had a good lineup.....sign some more mid-youth.....Now we have what for a center.....KG...who shouldn't play the whole season, 30-40 minutes....but doc will.....AND at center...=duh....

I think of a lot of things when I think of a "Celtic".

Quitting on the team because you're not getting the playing time you feel you deserve isn't one of them.
