Let's just move on. I respect the opposing opinions on this matter for sure.
Believe me, it's really hit me that this could be it for this era of Celtics basketball and that this could be it for Pierce in Celtic green. He's been my favorite player from day 1. But I don't want to be a mediocre team, waste Rondo's best years, etc. just to sit and get bounced every season in the 1st or 2nd round. The team has slowly regressed from when the core was brought together in 07-08. It's not going to win the NBA Finals anytime soon...sorry, it's just not. I think the problem goes deeper than just needing 1 or 2 extra guys. I think it's time to break everything down, make whatever moves you can (drafting/trades, etc) and stockpile for the future to eventually make that big deal where you can go from nothing to something, which is basically what happened with the acquisitions of Allen and Garnett back in the summer of 2007.
At some point, the team is going to have to rebuild, it's just fact. I'd rather just get it out of the way/get it going now, than just prolonging the inevitable. We're just putting a band-aid on a wound, rather than actually treating it, if you will. It's time to actually treat it, IMO. I've definitely enjoyed this era, as the team suffered for many years (with the exceptions of the early 2000's playoff appearances, but those were flukes), and to be able to have had some real winning basketball in Boston again has been great, but I don't want to get back to that level of making short-lived playoff appearances or only making it far in the playoffs because, for example, D. Rose got injured, or this guy broke his ankle so his team went down with him. Last season's run to the ECF was probably more luck than anything due to a number of factors. It's time to truly rebuild and start putting together a legitimate contender that can rely on itself to make it deep into the post-season for a good 5 or 6 years, rather than relying on extenuating circumstances.
Get this process out of the way so it's over and done with. If we keep prolonging it, 2-3 years from now, people will be saying, "I wish we had rebuilt a few years ago because we'd probably have been doing X, Y, Z right now."
