Doc probably convinced Danny that he didn't need a big because he can win it all with Small Ball.

Of course this is just pure speculation.
But I feel like that conversation went down like this.

Danny: Hey Doc we've got a chance to get Kenyon Martin and Chris Andersen. What do you think?

Doc: Who?

Danny: K-Mart and the Birdman!

Doc: Walmart and Larry Bird?

Danny: No, No, Kenyo...

Doc: I only like guards, we're gonna win with small ball. Trust me, I'm Terrific.

Danny: Are you sure?

Doc: How dare you question my coaching? I'm the best coach in the league!

Danny: I'm just...

Doc: SHUT UP! To prove you wrong, get me some guys from China, I'd make them look like all stars.

Danny: Okay, I guess...

Nate Robinson WOULD HAVE helped with our second half offense!!!  Danny not signing a PURE PG after RR went down in January is the BIG mistake this year.  We simply do NOT have a PURE PG on this roster as currently constituted.  PP should be looked to for his scoring and not have to be the PG in abstentia.

This was a HORRIBLE GM year for Danny.  There is NO other way to look at it guys.

Smitty77

Again, hindsight. On paper, this past offseason was probably Danny's best since the 07/08 season.

Resigned KG
Drafted Sully
Signed Jason Terry (universally heralded as a great pick up at the time)
Resigned Jeff
Signed+traded for Courtney Lee
Signed Darko. For the minimum
Signed Barbosa. For the minimum

Those were terrific moves considering how limited we are by cap restrictions.
Agreed. It's after that point where Danny really messed up

Can't just focus all the blame on Ainge. It's also Doc Rivers' fault for not even playing guys that Ainge helped him assemble such as Courtney Lee, Shav Randolph, or DJ White. The Celtics organization is atrocious!

I'm hoping Wyc can fire those two. Hire Phil Jackson as a GM. Man that'll be rich!

I've said this a number of times, but I don't think either of those guys wanted to play for a mediocre Celtics team missing their best player.

Birdman and K-Mart ended up playing big roles for contenders because that's where they wanted to go.

Objection. K-Mart did not specifically WANTED to go to New York. K-Mart just WANTED a team to hire him and get a job. He's doing a good job now. Not sure about Birdman, but I suspect the similar reason.

Both players held out for a while and then just happened to join the two best teams in the Eastern Conference.  Either all of the other teams in the league foolishly chose not to hire them, or K-Mart and Birdman were waiting to get a spot on two of the best teams in the league.

The Knicks are not one of the top 2 teams in the league.

Kenyon Martin has been killing us. He really has been the best big man on the court in both of the first two games.

Can't win if Kenyon Martin is outplaying Kevin Garnett.

Hindsight 20-20...and even with the Knicks and Heat, it took them both a long time to sign these guys, and plenty of other teams passed, so there were probably legit concerns.

Wow, Celtics fans really are spoiled.  The organization is atrocious? Really?

I'm not mad at Danny at all. We put together a really good team on paper - even though we were over cap yet still managed to avoid the hard cap. I don't think he could have done any better with less. Where is this magical backup pg that everyone keeps talking about? Derek Fisher?

After dealing with the likes of Nate Robinson, Glen Davis, Delonte West, Stephon Marbury and other midseason vet signings that bombed,  the organization visibly shifted focus to picking up guys with low maintenance personalities and strong work ethics. No more gambling on disgruntled vets midseason, but lesser known players from the d-league or overseas. Just because the moves haven't worked out doesn't mean Ainge hasn't tried and done his best.
2021 Houston Rockets

C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

Chambers,

You said this about Avery:  "We've survived with Pierce as point forward and Bradley is capable. Any replacement guard isn't going to be as good as Bradley anyway."

I LOVE AB, but he is NOT and will NEVER be a PG.  He averaged 2.1 assists and 1.44 turnovers for the year.  You are really and seriously telling me that Danny could not have found a PURE PG that would average MORE than 2.1 assists and almost as many turnovers.  You can't be serious.

BTW, I am breathing:-)))

I am roughly 100% sure that Phil Jackson will never coach this team.

If you want to consider realistic other options for the C's, then look at our recent history. It sounds to me like you weren't following the team when M.L., Pitino, and O'Brien were the coaches. Would you prefer one of them?

Or would you rather have someone who is currently coaching another NBA team - and no, you can't pick Popovich because he also has 0% chance of coaching the Celtics.

Larry Drew? Doug Collins? PJ Carlesimo? Take your pick of the available and realistic other options, and explain in detail why you'd prefer that person over Doc.

BTW, Kenyon would have tied for our team's second highest efficiency rating behind Pierce last night.  He is a 15.50 Efficiency so far in the playoffs.

Birdman is a +15 so far.

I am SO GLAD Danny did NOT sign these guys.

Both are higher than KG's 14.50!!!!!!!!!!

I already have mentioned my opinion long time before. DA is poor GM and incompetent. You can not get Randolph and not sign K. Martin. Can not get rid of Ray for getting Terry and Lee
