I couldn't care less about Kenyon Martin or Chris Andersen.  I don't either guy would help what ails us right now.

The thing that bothers me about not signing martin is that Danny should know doc by now.  Doc Ionly plays a certain type of player during the playoffs.  Usually vets with a proven track record (see cassel and pj brown).  Kenyon fits the bill.  Doc would have played him.  Instead danny goes after the Chinese all star team and made replacing Barbosa his biggest priority.  Think of all the mid seasons doc has let waste away on the bench...Murphy, Kristik, mikki Moore (he sucked), all the guys this year, and even add some of our guys we had from the beginning to this year.  Lee has totally been benched.  Are you kidding me.  Danny needed to save doc from himself and signed Martin and he blew it!!!

I've said this a number of times, but I don't think either of those guys wanted to play for a mediocre Celtics team missing their best player.

Birdman and K-Mart ended up playing big roles for contenders because that's where they wanted to go.
K Mart publicly said he wanted to come here, so...

I can't find the link for it right now, but I remember his agent saying that they are trying to get something done with the C's and Martin himself saying that we had a done deal but they backed out at the last minute.

Yeah, I saw some of that stuff, but I really just don't buy it.  I think both guys ended up where they wanted to be.

Those guys wouldn't be so obviously missed if Doc actually used Shav.

I swear if Doc had even attempted playing KG with Shav (instead he'd only pair Wilcox with KG down the stretch because Wilcox 'needed' it) or even had Shav in and ran a couple of plays for his easy offense, these two games would have gone differently.

But others may have a point in that it may have taken one of the two old vets to get them pried off Doc's bench for the playoffs.

The way the writers phrased the rumor, I thought Danny's apparent reluctance was likely tied to input from players as it was his own feelings towards Martin.

There's probably something to that, as well.

I just have a hard time believing that Birdman or K-Mart would have preferred to be playing on this Celtics team rather than have a chance to go deep in the playoffs while playing a significant role on a team like the Knicks or Heat.

The Celtics aren't a contender this year, so they didn't have their pick of the best waiver wire guys.  That's why we're playing guys who started the season in China.

I suspect our guys will go down with a fight but I still want to say that the team after the KG era should have a different gm and coach.

How many decisions have been bad since the end of the title year?

1. Having Posey and PJ leave and not replacing them
2. Letting Tony leave
3. Has anyone noticed Nate?
4. Perk being traded during a season we had a chance
5. Sheed signing.
6. Jermaine
7. Let Ray leave for nothing. Obviously should have known he was playing with fire floating guys around but expecting loyalty in return?
8. Terry so far?
9 Missed on numerous picks including the fact that we got nothing from the 2012 two picks that helped this years vets

I get that that there are going to be errors, but the cumulative errors by Danny look to have killed the team. Meanwhile the Clippers, as one example, have made hay with their picks and are better than the Celtics

I have pretty much had it with this regime and yeah the Kenyon Martin error is CRAZY dumb when you knew you needed help for KG

If you honestly think Shavlik Randolph's playing time is the reason we lost these games, well, I don't even know where to begin.

Maybe Ainge thought there was zero chance of a championship without Rondo and was just trying to tank and only acquire players who would be under contract for next season so that they would either contribute or be a trade asset.

Everything is so cut and dry in hindsight. Danny Ainge is in charge of seeing the big picture,  not just the first round of the playoffs.  Both Birdman and Kenyon have well documented issues off the court, Danny has to weigh the benefit of what they could bring to the court versus issues they could introduce to the locker room. We've had our fair share of knuckleheads over the past few years, Danny and Doc know how much goes into managing delicate personalities.

Here's the cold hearted truth: we are not a Chris Andersen or Kenyon Martin away from a championship.  We are not legitimate contenders. When it came down to it, perhaps Danny felt that signing either of those guys wasn't worth the possible disruption in the locker room and influence on young guys like Bradley, Melo, and Crawford.

Nate Robinson WOULD HAVE helped with our second half offense!!!  Danny not signing a PURE PG after RR went down in January is the BIG mistake this year.  We simply do NOT have a PURE PG on this roster as currently constituted.  PP should be looked to for his scoring and not have to be the PG in abstentia.

This was a HORRIBLE GM year for Danny.  There is NO other way to look at it guys.

Again, hindsight. On paper, this past offseason was probably Danny's best since the 07/08 season.

Resigned KG
Drafted Sully
Signed Jason Terry (universally heralded as a great pick up at the time)
Resigned Jeff
Signed+traded for Courtney Lee
Signed Darko. For the minimum
Signed Barbosa. For the minimum

Those were terrific moves considering how limited we are by cap restrictions.

Lol massive emotional over reaction to a playoff heartbreak.
With Rondo and sully this is completely different team.
What is Danny supposed to do? We've survived with Pierce as point forward and Bradley is capable. Any replacement guard isn't going to be as good as Bradley anyway.
Nothing we can do about injuries and Danny put together a create squad, he even got Crawford for a one legged Barbosa (who was a min deal) and a 12th man Collins.
He's done very well with the Jeff Green deal too.
Take a step back and breathe.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Not only did he fail to sign Chris Birdman Anderson and Kenyon Martin, but due to his bad treatment of Martin, he also gave him tons of motivation to do whatever in his means to destroy this little puppy of a green team that plays for 2 quarters.

If recent reports were of any truth, which they look like they are, then we made it look like to Martin that we are signing him and then just left him unsigned for an unspecified reason.

Tons of motivation for him and he is destroying us, whether you want to admit it or not.

Not only that, we also failed to sign Anderson, who is having a pretty effective season for Miami.

Oh what a beautiful job you have done, Ainge.

Kenyon Martin has probably played with more heart than the entire Celtics team combined.

How can you blame Ainge? Why would Martin or Birdman want to come to the broken down Celtics when they can join the best team in the world and the 2nd seed in the East?

And with all the false reporting that the media dishes out theres no way I'll buy the "we said we were gonna sign Martin then didnt" argument.
