not forcing turnovers
Turnovers? Just force an extra punt in the last quarter and you win the game.

But no, you let Cam Newton beat you because you can't make a tackle...

Pretty much.

the defense has been decimated.  actually, the Pats defense has been worse than decimated (missing more than 1/10 of the key players).

big picture -- pats are still easily on track to win the division with 10 or 11 wins.  the AFC is weak so a first round matchup isn't likely to be very scary.

i don't expect this team to win anything past the divisional round, however.

I'm not concerned about winning the division, but this loss may cost us the bye, and a week off in the playoffs is big.

i don't see this team beating any of the true contenders for the AFC -- denver, kansas city, indianopolis, cincinnatti -- in any case.  so it doesn't bother me.

And I can easily see us beating any of them, the Chiefs and the Bengals in particular. Even with half of our defense on the shelf.

Nothing rustles my jimmies quite like a Patriot loss. I think it's because when they lose (which hasn't been too often these last 12 years), it is usually in totally bizarre fashion and in a game where they could have, or should have, won.

It sucks that the Patriots lost, but I have to admit that I'm happy for Cam Newton.  I like that kid.

He's a good talent, but I don't like the flashiness at the quarterback position. To me a QB needs to lead by example and even keeled to a degree. Newton celebrates first downs like touchdowns and touchdowns like he just put a ring on his finger. It's annoying.

It's football.  Everybody celebrates big first downs and touchdowns.

Maybe, but the difference in the amount of posturing between the Patriots offense and the Panthers offense was clearly visible. At least to me.

So, clearly, if the Pats had postured harder, they would've won.

But c'mon. no QB poses more than Tom Brady.

Really?  The Bengals already manhandled the Pats this year, so that doesn't require explanation.  The Chiefs are like a supped-up version of the kind of team that rattles the Pats.  Physical D, good running game, mediocre QB who doesn't turn the ball over, etc.

I think Pats would win matchup over Bengals. I mean, Pats beat the Jets first time around but then lost the second time. It's football.
Celtics fan for life.

Bengals have lost 3 of their best players on defense to injuries and area really showing it in their overall level of play.

Plus Dalton varies between average and terrible on a given day.

The Chiefs would be a tricky matchup, could the Pats keep Brady clean?
