I can and can't believe this whole kobe and media circus about that stupid foul/non foul.

People talking about shooters needig to be protected. First of all what they really mean is that stars need to be protected. Second offensive players are already extremely protected. You literally can't touch lebron when he is driving in the lane. Yiu need to stay in front of him and cleanly block the ball which will still get calls.

You can't foul hard in the nba without looking over your shoukder to see if its a flagrant or if you are getting ejected.

Kobe is simply whining about a call he didn't get (while commiting an offense foul) and thid is just sour grapes for him. Does anyone really believe this "injury"?

He missed the shot, thouhht he got fouled and now he's complaining and getting everyone to write about this crap. Theres no doubt that he'll be playing in the next game and him and the lakers will be getting some beautiful calls his way.

Seriously do you really buy this out indefinitely thing? I don't for a second. He'll be back next game. It will be good for everyone else's stories though. Either lakers losing becuase kobe is hobbled or kobe gutting it out leading them to the playoffs.

Great script kobe!

I totally agree with Kobe here. If you've ever played basketball, you would know that landing on someone's foot after shooting a J is not good. It happened to Pierce last year, I believe, and he sprained his ankle pretty bad. It screwed with Joe Johnson, Deron, lots of players. If you jump straight up and someone sticks a leg under your foot, you obviously can't see/avoid it. If you land on it, you twist your leg and crumple down to the ground.

Shooters and offense should definitely get the advantage in this case because they shot the jump shot. It's the defender's responsibility not to foul the shooter after the shot has left his hand. Sticking your foot under someone else is cheap and dangerous for NBA players, college players, even me.

So yep. It should not be legal for a defender to stick their foot under the opponent's leg while the opponent shoots a jump shot. Too dangerous.

Undercutting a guy on a jumpshot is bush league.  Actually, undercutting a guy in general is a cheap shot, IMO.

There's just some things you don't do on a court.  That's one of them.

This particular instance is up for debate but the general feeling is there.

Yeah it is illegal. I don't think its something that needs to be extra focused on now though to create more and more 50/50 calls that will prob be terrible calls. If they want to fine someone or maybe suspend someone after the fact great. But just like the kickouts unless its egregious or continually happening let it go.

Man imagine if everyone played like Wade and spent most of their time on their butts falling after contested shots? We don't need to see more and more guys collapsing on the floor looking to get calls.

My main point with kobe though is that wah wah sour grapes.

Isn't it already illegal to run under a guy on a jumpshot?  It's not always called of course but I'm pretty sure the shooting motion isn't considered over until the shooter lands on the ground.

I agree that Kobe's got a case, but that's partly because I think Dahntay is the kind of player to try something like that.  Dahntay is also right that Kobe kicked his leg out on the shot, though.

Dahntay is definitely at fault (league already issued an official statement http://www.nba.com/official/)

And plus, Dirk/Pierce always kick their legs out..

What I find galling is how "upset" Kobe is about it given his history.

1. He'd do the same thing to Ginobli and other Spurs shooters

2. He also deliberately swung his elbows out in his follow through trying to nail defenders in the head as they closed out on him.

Yeah it is, and Kobe does have a case. But he's not a player who should be throwing stones on this sort of thing.

He's right, but he makes the same mistakes as any other player. Some things just aren't called (see Garnett, Kevin pushing players around every game from behind-the-back)

Agreed.

I'm a bit shocked to see Kobe making as big a deal about it as he is.

Hey Kobe - it's an "injury", lol....

BOS's dealt with them since 08-09...probably cost us at LEAST 1 Banner, maybe 2....

Other teams deal with them, too.

Love ya, Kobe, but you're not invincible to injuries. They happen.

Man up, get well, and get your team to the playoffs. BOS will meet you there, hopefully - without Rondo, Barbosa, and Sully, who are - injured.

Well, of course sticking your foot under the guy while he shoots a jumper is dirty. But, I mean, how come Kobe has the right to whine? Over the last 15 years, there were much more questionable calls in his favor than in the favor of the other team. For example he elbowed Mike Bibby in the nose late in Game 6 of the 2002 WC Finals. Plus, I'm sure he did that a few times, too. Karma is a b.
When you lose, the easy part is to see who gives up. Giving up is very simple. You basically take your stuff and walk away. To continue to work and to continue to compete is one of the most difficult things, especially when you really don't have anything - KG

lol "get your team to the playoffs"-- from the bench! ;D ;D

I guess he would come off as strange if he said, "oh well, I'm out for the season; woe is me." He's gotta say something and that's probably not, "I admit it. That was a very well-called foul and I deserved it for not watching where my feet landed."

Haha - I see your point, as before in the thread, but I just don't believe the player guarding him meant to do it.

It's an injury, Kobe. As much as you "may" believe that you're Tony Stark - you're not.

Talk to Perk, KG, Rondo, Sully, Barbosa, etc, etc - about them.

He can even talk to Shaq and JO, too - either one of those Bigs stay healthy in 10-11 (and Wade keeps his hands to himself, lol) no telling what BOS could've done in 10-11, too.

End rant.

 ;D

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I may feel differently if it weren't Kobe, but I really didn't think it was that egregious. Sometimes I forget how much I hate Kobe and think about how his credentials rank right up there with the best; however, all the disgust comes flowing back when I see him whining and acting super-special. Boo-hoo, Kobe - your team sucks this year anyway.
