Yet another reason Ainge is a clown.

Josh smith is a perennial underachiever, who will prob want a max contract...

and Ainge bails b/c he wants to keep his first round pick in an awful draft?

I love that people think Ainge is a good GM. It makes me happy, boosts my confidence in my intellectual/practical reasoning skills.

And pierce is at the very end of his career. Just trying to play devils advocate. You're not going to get a better offer for pierce than josh smith.

I'm obviously not as smart as you are but is it possible that the logic doesn't make sense because the rumor isn't true?

My guess is a pick between 15-22 in a bad draft had less to do with holding up a trade than simply Ainge not seeing Smith as a wise longterm investment.

You talk about reasons not to get Smith and then slam Danny for not getting Smith? Glad that boosted your confidence in your intellectual/practical reasoning skills.

I'm so glad this didn't happen.

Yeah, I had to read that twice myself.

I think of the Pacers game, replace Pierce with Smith... Green wouldn't have been open for that layup.
I moved the cheese.

  • Everyone's excited for the new era.
Glad this didn't happen.

Was this the best offer we're going to get for Pierce?  Sure it was.  That doesn't mean we should've made it.

I don't want a meathead like Smith on this team.  If people really hate the Pierce end-of-game iso, I'd bet my left nut they would've hated the Smoove 17-seconds-left-on-the-shot-clock three more.

I wouldn't have pulled the trigger on this deal if I was Ainge either, unless we were blowing it up (trading KG as well) and I knew that Smith would sign an extension at less than the max in order to play with his best buddy Rondo going forward.

I don't think swapping Pierce for Smith would bring us any/that much closer to beating the Heat or Thunder/Spurs. So to move the Captain to a sub .500 ball club and still not make us legit contenders doesn't seem right. Plus you just know someone out there will be desperate enough to offer Smith a max contract next year, which I wouldn't be comfortable giving him, so he would need to be willing to take less money to stay (a definite possibility, but you risk having him walk at the end of the season if you don't get a guarantee from him).

Yeah, there is NO way this rumor is true or accurate, regardless of whether it was reported by Wojonorski or the guy who works at the 7-11 down the street from me.

This is something I am sure the Celtics leaked to the media to make it looked like the FO "tried" to do something at the trade deadline.

A first round pick in a weak draft class really prevented Ainge from acquiring Josh Smith? Really?
