AB is gonna get traded. Danny won't pay him, lee, and Terry all 5+ million with rondo making 11 mill. Avery can get an extension soon. I really like him, but DA might be ready to sell high here. Especially if it's bringing a prime time contributor ala Josh Smith.

And...there it is.

Not sure of his ballhandling abilities (seems he's not too good at this, from what others are saying), but he's super fast and athletic, a great slasher, and provides more depth and insurance.

Some people are worried about minutes—don't be; at any given time, Doc's gonna use whoever's playing well, and if Boston gets through this season without any major injuries, it'll be a miracle. Already Bradley is out, and I'm pretty sure Rondo will miss at least a few games with one his usual ankle/foot/elbow injuries. At the very least, we've got Barbosa waiting in the wings in case of emergency instead of Jamar Smith. That's a big upgrade.

I thought Barbosa struggled with the Pacers because:

(1) He was played exclusively as a two guard which is a bad use of his skill-set. Same problem is likely to exist here.

(2) The Pacers had very little playmaking and all of their players, especially their twos and threes, suffered from a lack of a easy high percentage shot attempts. Obviously, Rondo is a big help here.

(3) Barbosa was too similar to George Hill which reduced his role on the team. Left him uninvolved. As will Jason Terry (be too similar).

As others have noted, this is a great move for the Celtics, but a terrible move for Barbosa.  If I was his agent, this is not what I would've recommended.

This might be the last chance for Barbosa to be on a team that has a shot at a championship. perhaps money and playing time are less important to him now than getting a ring. If that is the case, I think it a tremendous move.

I get that to an extent, but Barbosa is only 29 (30 in a month).  This certainly isn't his last hurrah.

I also question how much a ring is worth if you don't really contribute. I get the idea of a player like Posey, Brown, Pietrus, or even Lee (if you believe him) taking less money to be a role player on a title team.  However, depending on the matchups in the playoffs (particularly against bigger team), it's possible Barbosa could be in street clothes.

Rondo/Terry
Bradley/Lee
Pierce/Green
Sullinger/Bass/Wilcox
KG/Darko/Collins

Again, that's not a problem for us.  That's phenomenal for the C's to have such depth.  The season is long and he'll likely fill a need for us along the way (particularly now with Bradley out).  Furthermore, if he does well, it gives us more flexibility to trade Bradley or Lee later in the season.

However, from an agent's perspective, I would've recommended he sign somewhere else for a minimum deal where he could be part of the rotation and drive up his value for next season.
maybe nobody was blowing up his agents phone but a couple teams and he just chose us

im not worried about too much depth as much as you don't want it to happen injuries will occur through out the year

How on earth did we convince Barbosa to sign here over LA (heard Nash was recruiting him)?

2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

I feel like Terry is more of a shooter and Barbosa is more of a slasher. That could be very useful.

ideal world is AB runs the second unit with Terry....but boston has a great set of wings. don't care how they fit in...just having depth and the 1 and 2 is awesome

Hopefully he can play like he did back in the Phoenix days.

He was terrible in Toronto, and just mediocre in Indiana.

I would have much preferred it if we signed someone who isn't so terrible at handling the ball, though. Barbosa has always been turnover prone, and doesn't generate many assists, indicating he isn't terribly good at ball handling. Which is what makes him an odd signing.

Historically, his strengths have been forcing turnovers (he gets a lot of steals ... but, then, he fouls a lot too) and scoring (though the past 2-3 seasons his shooting percentages have been WAY down ... that's why we need him to play like he did in Phoenix, like that season with 59% TS and 1.3 PPS, which is amazing). He's also not a bad rebounder for his size/position.

In any case, if Barbosa can play like he did only a few years ago, this will be a great signing. I am afraid, though, of seeing the level of play he had in Toronto, which was just miserable (bad shooting splits, lots of turnovers, bad defense, etc.).

He's not really a PG though. he's a spark off the bench ala Nate Robinson.

Guys, just a few minutes ago we were thinking about Derek Fisher or Jonny Flynn coming to the team. We just got someone who is 10X better than both of those two combined. I seriously can't believe Barbosa signed with us of all teams. Considering the Lakers could have seriously used him off their bench, I couldn't be happier he's here instead of with an enemy.

Yes.  From what I read, Nash was actively recruiting LB for the Lakers. And reports said he was probably going to sign there.  I wonder how this played out as there were 3-4 teams going after him and after all this time the C's just swoop in and get him.  I think it will be interesting to hear how this played out. I absolutely think it speaks to the C's as destination team for solid complimentary players.

I love that the Lakers did not get this guy!

Lets make separate franchises for our 2nd and 3rd unit, they could contend too lol
When you lose, the easy part is to see who gives up. Giving up is very simple. You basically take your stuff and walk away. To continue to work and to continue to compete is one of the most difficult things, especially when you really don't have anything - KG
