Oct 14, 2012 11:33 AM EDT

Good , hope Danny can fleece the Hawks on deal for him.

But not for Sully.

prediction: Smith gets traded to the Spurs near the deadline for Kawhi Leonard, Stephen Jackson, DeJuan Blair and a pick.

I highly doubt this.  Smith doesn't strike me a player SA would be interested in, or at least not as a rental for the players they'd be giving up.  Additionally, SA doesn't strike me as a city/team Smith would be interested in re-signing long term, thus why it would likely be nothing more than a rental for SA.

Then there's the matter of, is that really enough talent to motivate Atl?

I don't see what all the fuss is about Josh Smith. He's a good player, but not worth big money for the next 5 years when we have great guys on the team already like Green and Sullinger.

Hmm, interesting.  I think the Spurs really like Kawhi Leonard though and they will have right about enough $ in cap space (depending on what they give Manu) to sign Smith in FA next offseason.

TP, yep.

This gives us leverage, and we really shouldn't offer more than we need to. I think we could maybe do it for Bass, Lee, and Melo/Pick. It's either that or nothing for the Hawks.

Rondo/Terry
Bradley/FA SG or Christmas
Pierce/Green
Smith/Sully
Garnett/Milicic

Obviously not all 15, but that front 10 is scary.

If it's an all-or-nothing offer of Bass, Lee & Melo/pick, it will definitely be nothing.  Atlanta isn't taking that offer, ever.  Not enough returning talent for too much long-term salary.

If Atalanta does, in fact, trade Smith this year, you can be assured they will be asking for quite a bit.  I would absolutely love to see Smith in green, but my hopes are diminishing.

Sully having a break-out season is about our best hope to entice Atlanta to deal with us.  Even then, including Sully in a deal likely wouldn't be enough.  Atlanta would probably want Bradley too.  Besides, I'm not sure how thrilled Atlanta would be with the idea of a Horford/Sullinger starting front court pairing.  Talk about an under-sized front court.

he'll probably end up with the Lakers.  That's just how these things go.

How would that happen? Trade Pau and Jamison?

oh yea , I'm sure LA is working on a deal for him. I suspect IF they aren't doing so well , they probally try and trade Pau Gasol for J Smith.  And then get CP3 when Nash departs.  It is written in the stars.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I bet another team takes a flyer on him. A team with young assets and some ability to manipulate their salary cap.

Houston makes a lot of sense.

Kevin Martin, Marieff Morris (Or Royce White, Patrick Patterson, Chandler Parsons, etc), 1st

for

Josh Smith, DeShawn Stevenson

Toronto:

Ed Davis, Bargnani

for

Smith

Phoenix:

Brad Miller, Marcus Morris, 1st

for

Smith

Stuff like that. Small market team that has the ability and inclination to overpay for a fringe all-star.

How funny would it be if the Nets tried to make a play for him with Lopez and Humphries.
