It's a fine line.  "No layups" is a good rule.  "Dirty" is not.  "Dirty" will give Miami extra possessions and free throws via flagrants.  "Dirty" will get our players ejected.  We don't have any margin of error to be handing Miami extra points, or to be sacrificing our depth.

I think the Celtics will handle it the right way, though.  They know how to foul hard, and to play very physically, without crossing over into blatantly dirty.

Ideally, they play dirty enough to have non-fans call them dirty, but not so dirty that they get in trouble.

So, I'd like to see something like that 2009 playoff foul by Rondo on Brad Miller, which wasn't deemed flagrant, but which lots of people thought was flagrant.  And I'd like to see a lot of it.

I still see number 20 in the rafters, 10 years from now.
If there is one thing about Ray moving on to Miami that virtually everyone(meaning pundits, press, Celtics players, Celtics management, Ray fans and former Ray fans)can agree on, its that Ray leaving and the manner in which he left has cemented the fact that his number will never be lifted to the rafters in Boston.

I think you might be one of the very few people still believing that will happen.

Yeah, I'm not on board with that.  The Celtics got *very* lucky that wasn't a game-changing flagrant there.

You can't go hitting guys in the head consistently; if you do, guys will end up with ejections and suspensions.

I think people calling for players to hurt Ray don't realize that the players in the Celtics lock room, might have been a bit miffed over Ray not staying, but I still think they like/love him and would never want to see any harm come to him, never mind be the cause of that harm.

I really don't think NBA players, with very few exceptions, wish injury upon each other or want to purposely cause injury to a fellow NBA player. They know what goes around comes around. Do something like that and you put a target on your back and that target could cost you a career and millions of dollars if someone decides to really take you out.

Fans think different than players and I doubt anything like that comes even close to happening to Ray Allen, nor would I want to see it.

Yeah, and its just bad Karma.  There are clean hard fouls, and there are dirty ones.  It is never OK to go headhunting these days.

Celtics fans should be classier than booing Ray. He gave us 5 good years and we've had a whole summer to get over it.

Should be as for Scal. Play the highlight reel and the thankyou reel, smile and clap and then absolutely destroy him on the court. Seriously. Rondo/Lee/Terry to drop like 60 on him.

He gave us five good years while we paid him a handsome sum.

Again, if he doens't feel he owes the Celtics ogranization anything, I don't feel that we owe him an applause.

He took half the money to leave my favorite team for my least favorite. I will boo that.

most effective move would be to treat him to silence.  utter and complete silence.  maybe some cricket sounds over the audio system but that's it.

Nope.  He should get a warm ovation.  We basically drove him out of town.  Gave his starting spot to an unproven kid, floated his name in trades over-and-over in a failed desperate attempt to flip him for young assets, and signed a player who would likely take most of his minutes off the bench (Terry).  I don't blame him for wanting to play for a contender.  No better spot for him than Miami.  At least it's not the Lakers or Thunder.

He was the 3rd best player on our title team.  He hit huge shot after huge shot over-and-over in the playoffs.  That 2009 Chicago series (with KG injured) where Rondo went off and we overachieved... Ray's performance was something of a miracle.  Respect the man.  He earned it.  Who cares if he's playing in Miami.  We are heading in a new direction and Ray's role was all but eliminated... especially when it sounds like we were thinking of bringing in Lee regardless of if Ray signed.

But that's the thing, LOL - evidently, many of us do care that it's MIA.

I'm betting that if Ray Allen had bolted for the Lakers there'd be less angst around here.

If BOS can't close out MIA, then I'm thinking that we'd BETTER hope that MIA beats LA.

The thought of Kobe Bean Bryant flashing 6 rings in our faces is WAY too much for me.

Bradley earned his spot in the lineup. Ray just couldn't come to terms with his diminishing level of play.

Also, Rondo and even Pierce (and I think even KG) were mentioned in trade rumors. If JG plays well, he'd take Pierce's minutes and same for KG.

If it was me I'd have the Garden completely silent when his name was called. I'm talking dead silent in a strange and eerie kind of way. Kind of saying that you don't even exist to us anymore and we don't even acknowledge you. I think this would get to him more then booing him or yelling.

Exactly this. I feel like complete silence would make more of an impact than booing.

100% agree.

But, since this would be nearly impossible to pull off, I say boo as loud as possible.

But by pulling off such an event, wouldn't that - be in fact - acknowledging Ray's presence? ;D

And also - Do you SERIOUSLY think that EVERYONE in the Garden would do that?

Even IF you got - say - 60% of the garden to go silent - I'd bet that the other 40% would cheer rather loudly - thus in fact canceling out the Silent protest.

No way possible to silence everyone.
