He can have his one time welcome back to the Garden ovation but after that he is the enemy and will get the same booing treatment as any other visiting player. He is no longer a Celtic by choice so he doesnt deserve any good treatment from the fans in Boston.

I am most looking forward to seeing him matched up against Avery Bradley. If Courtney Lee shuts him down fine, but if Avery shuts him down and outplays him? That will really raise some eyebrows and bring some big smiles.

I will bet on Avery coming out on top.

I'm gonna cheer. We would be tied with LA if it were not for him. Sure, he went to our rival/ this year's champions/ the least respected team in the league/ the 2nd dirtiest team in the league (to us).

But he's done more for our franchise positively, than negatively, by a mile.

I only hate that he went to Miami of all places. Not cool man. But when he retires, I'll most likely remember him for what he did for us during his stay in Boston, and as a CELTIC.

I was at the first Celtics game in which Leon Powe played as a Cav in 09-10, and I''l admit it, I shed a few tears (I was flahing my Powe jersey, too, like I do at every game  8)). There wasn't a montage, or anything, but the crowd thanked him for what he did for our team, wholeheartedly. And the Powe situation just shows how harsh the league can be, especially Danny Ainge. Just food for thought.

Ray Allen is dedicated to his craft, and he gave us his all for five years, so show some respect, because the dude wouldn't have left such a great situation without a good reason.

He's an all time great C in my book, and he has my applause. Not in Miami by any chance, but in my hometown.

I've generally been on the side that sees Ray Allen as the enemy now, but that was well said.

Can you explain how Danny did Powe dirty? I was under the impression he gave the kid a shot when no one else in the league did because he was missing two knees basically.

Powe for his part jumped at the opportunity and stuck on for a couple years in the league. Which is his job i might add. I think your forgetting that his second and third year were none guaranteed. But Danny kept him anyways although he didn't make the stipulations to stick on the team written into his contract..

How that equals Danny being harsh to this kid baffles me. Injuries happen. Can't help them. But should Danny eat up a roster spot and cap space for that?

Taking everything that transpired over the last 5 years, I think it would be fitting to give him a standing O when he checks in to the game (to honor what he did for us), then boo him each and every time he touches the ball.

I never said, nor implied that Danny did him dirty. I just meant that this is a harsh league; loyalty ain't the norm by any means nowdays.

And I should mention that I'm biased when it comes to Leon. No player out there has had such an impact on me, personally. He's one of the few players I've followed since college, and I've met him a few times. He's just the dude, dude. I digress.

Leon gave us his body and soul in 08, and again in 09. The dude played a freaking playoff game on a torn up knee or two. I've dealt with some crap knee injuries myself, so I personally know how much cojones that took.

Money and business and a roster spot for Shelden Williams aside, on a human level, Powe got screwed.

How would you feel, basically giving up your already crap knees for a team, and expecting to spend your time rehabbing with that team to which you just blew your ACL(s?) out for, and being replaced with Mr. Candace Parker?

It's a harsh league, man. When emotions are high, people tend to make spotty decisions. It goes both ways. I hated Ray for a solid 2 weeks, but then I got over it. I'm still mad at him, but it's all perceptive, man.

Good for him for the personal victory against us, if it means that [dang] much to him.
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

i'd say we should give him a standing ovation when (presumably) they play some video of his time in boston, like they have done for other former players on our championship team. however, i think he should be booed more than anyone else on miami after that moment in that game and the rest of the year. fact is, we don't win #17, and don't compete for a title every year since, without ray. we have to show him love for that. but that's it. once that video is done, he should be seen as the guy who would rather take less money to ride lebron's coattails than cement his legacy as an all-time celtic while still competing for the title.

the problem with the powe situation was...we were trying to win a title. there was no way we should have offered him a roster spot in that situation...because we NEEDED that spot and the odds of him being back at all the following year were slim. it was a terrible situation all-around. not offering him a contract was the right basketball move, but i'm sure everyone in the organization hated to do it.

We need Avery to be guarding Dwade, not Ray. Bradley is best utilized as an on ball defender . I think it's much more likely Ray will be covered by Lee and Terry  . I am sure he will guard Ray when Wade's not the game, but that won't be very often maybe 5-10 mins a game.

I know, and I understand completely. But, I will say that hindsight's 20/20 and the way Shelden performed in the finals (and I say Shelden, because he basically took the Powe role), we might has well have just threw Leon in there; and he could not have done worse. He has good hands, Shelden has.... questionable hands.

But as you said, we were goin for a banner, and we didn't wanna wait around for hop along Leon Powe to make a recovery. I get it. But that's exactly the only point I'm trying to make; that it's a harsh. league. to. play. in.

Should he EVER get booed in the Boston Garden?

While I appreciate what he did here, I think booing him is just fine.

This isn't a Posey situation where Danny let him walk away; nor is it a Perk situation, where Danny traded him away.

Yes, Danny did almost trade him a couple of times.  But he didn't trade him.

And then this offseason, Danny offered him a contract worth twice what the Heat were offering him and Ray walked away to one of the Celtics' biggest rivals.

Ray brought this upon himself.  He deserves any grief the fans give him.

While I certainly respect if BOS Fans want to boo Ray Allen, I just hope we keep it classy.

Please don't embarrass me or any other BOS fans out there that may still feel a deep respect for Ray Allen.

PLEASE keep it Classy, Boston.

I can care less about Ray Allen, Miami or whether fans want to boo or not. Ray's gone. He tarnished his own legacy and reputation with his own doing. Fans don't need to stoop low just to prove a point or show disdained for Ray, but if fans decide to boo I wouldn't be mad.

Then again, this picture above might irritate Celtics fans even more. If Ray wants to tailgate with Miami's Three Stooges, then so be it.

Should he? No, probably not. Will he? Yes, most likely. Fans are fickle and have a short memory. I personally know that he should get a ovation for what he's done for us, but don't know if I could cheer for him. He might get a decent ovation if the Celtics give him a nice video montage before the home game.
