I see your points GreenFaith. The thing i loved about the JET signing was the fact he's pretty clutch in his own right. I even seem to remember him burying some contested shots against us over the years in the closing minutes of games. Plus attitude is everything. The fact JET is clear about his role and place on the team is greatly underrated. Chemistry can't be seen in any stat but it greatly affects the outcome of games in my opinion. I'll take the guy who wants to be here and is clear about his role and place on the team 10 times out of 10 thank you.

CH3 - I hope you're right.

JET does have some clutch in him. Can't wait to see him in Green on Oct 30.

But there was just something about being down by a bucket or two, and seeing Ray Allen in the game..lurking.

You just KNEW that BOS had a chance...just because of Ray.

I hope that Jet, KG, Paul, Rajon - can step up and help us forget. But that is nearly impossible, unless Larry or Reggie are doing a time-warp into BOS.

I'm looking forward to 2012-13, though...but any close games we have will be very interesting.

The one guy we're both overlooking here is Courtney Lee. I admit i haven't seen enough of him to know how good he is in clutch situations or if he's even a threat in those final moments at all. Does anyone know? Any Rockets people here?

Iv'e heard he's money in the corners, but im not even sure if he ended games for Houston. In Celtics basketball culture it's always said it doesn't matter who starts the game but who finishes. That's been one of our sixth man principles over the years.

Well, this clip from a HOU-OKC game just last year does in fact give me SOME hope:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUfy8eDYbM4

If Courtney Lee can provide THIS for BOS?

Just Super. The man DOES seem to have some ice water in his veins, too.

But man..Ray Allen....

Time to get to work, Mr. Lee!

  • Ashy To Classy, baby.
Some people hate Rondo's supposed "tude." I personally love it. KG has currupted this young man, by basically making him feel okay about always expressing himself. That's my theory. I know he was already like that, but he has no problem being public with it now haha.
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

Good points, CH3 and CelticsG1 - Rondo will probably make up for those assists.

But there is one area where I think the entire team could be hurting at -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlBCYTOxQ7M

Who in the world has Ice Cold Water in his veins....whom opposing teams absolutely fear...in the closing moments of a game?

None other than Walter Ray Allen.

I truly love our team going forward, and we do have some good options.

But when the game is close...when teams are doubling up on Paul or KG and playing ball denial with Rajon.....

Someone please tell me this:

Who will take that last shot for BOS?

I LOVE Jet already, and can't wait for him to take off on Oct 30.....but once again:

There is NO ONE as clutch as Ray Allen...he will go into the HOF early, and will go down as one of the best shooters, clutch performers, in the history of the game - right up there with Larry and Reggie.

And now MIA has him. He'll have to be accounted for at all times. BOS can certainly do it, but it will be a lot tougher.

Yes, there is. You might be suffering from CelticNostaliaitis

In Miami - Game 2:

Game tying 3 pointer, clutch assist, and dagger 3 pointer:

Closeout Game - Phil Jackson's last game:

Also, look at the JET's 4th quarter and clutch stats on 82games. For the last 5 years, he's consistently in the top 15-20 players, there's no other Celtic that is above him except for Pierce last year.

Having Ray to shot the "LAST SECOND" shot was nice option (if he was healthy) .  But, It seems to me his body (ankles) were not up to the task of NBA night in and night out play anymore, he's at the end of his carreer.  I really think , used as a starting type player he would have injuried again by seasons end, leaving us in a "BIND" once again..  Basically father time has left Ray as  a role player / off the bench expert . A role he was unwilling to accept for the Celtics even with "MORE money to sit on the bench than the Heat would pay.

Rondo was putting in the work , while Ray sits on the bench , and complains .

Here is where I blame DOc for not stepping in and putting RAY in his place quick enough.  Ray was dragging the team down at one point . ROndo was fed up with playing a hurt guy and losing games.  In pops Bradley and here we are.

Glade Allen and his worn out self is gone.

Paul Pierce said the issues Ray and Rondo had were nothing unusual between team mates.

Also, last minute 3 pointers aren't as necessary when you play better in the preceding 3 1/2 quarters and don't blow leads.

Things change. We don't know what things will look like until they take the floor.

I will always remember Ray's glorious baseline reverse in LA and blowing past Sasha for a gorgeous lay-in that helped put a banner in the rafters. That will always overshadow his departure for me.

There will always be close games. Following your logic, if we play better, than the 5 point losses could have been games requiring buzzer beaters.

"Play better" arguments tend to fail in my eyes because it usually involves dismissing the role of the opponent in games. Fans of both teams in any given game are often discounting the role of the other team in this way, which doesn't make sense to me. It also doesn't give enough credit to the reality that a team's ability is limited. It wrongly acts as if team A's runs are to be expected but team B's runs are unreasonable.

Ray was fantastic at taking and making last moment threes. But we had trouble scoring in the last several minutes of many key game and that was also because Ray was on the floor and couldn't create his own shot. Since Rondo has his own offensive weaknesses, having other guys on the floor with Rondo who can't create a shot became a bigger issue as the team became, uh, more mature.

Having Jet, Bradley and Lee, all of who can go to the basket better than Ray, will improve the team.

Just to clear this up the dude on the shoe asked rondo "have you talked to Jesus?", to which Rondo replied "I talk to the Lord", then the host made it clear he was referring to Ray Allen to which Rondo then said "oh that guy". So its not like he just came out dissing him, he was actually realizing who the host was talking about.

Frankly I found that hilarious. But it seems like Rondo and Ray's relationship was some part of the reason on why Ray left to Miami
We have no clue whether the sourness in the video is from problems in their relationship leading up to free agency or if it is from his decision to leave their team built on Ubuntu.  I could see both Pierce and Garnett making a joke in a similar manner.

Ray had varying relationships with each Celtic but I'm sure they all feel like he left them for the enemy.  Even Terry said this and they never played together.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Ray's a whining punk. We have the best PG in the league who creates open shots for all his teammates and gets the best shot available a vast majority of the time. Yet Ray complains that he isn't getting enough touches when he runs our offense into the ground by waiting him to run aroud all the screens for 10-15 secs just to actually get a open shot. He can't create his own shot or shots for others yet he is jealous that Rondo is running the show.

Good Riddance

Can't wait to see Bradley,Terry and Lee being able to create their own shots and go to the hoop without the clock running all the way down, and they are still very good 3 point shooters .

Bye Bye Ray you clown ( I know I know he almost got traded so he was mad . Guess what, PP,KG and Rondo were all being talked about in possible trades all year)

and no Ray you will not always be a true Celtic like Ray said in his Miami Press conference , you're a front running punk trader .

Ray Allen is a legend.  He was huge for this team during their run.  Him going to Miami is a bummer, but we basically eliminated his role anyways.  Could be worse... he could have signed with the Lakers.

Bill Russell is a legend. Larry Bird is a legend. That's a strong word to throw around when speaking of "That Guy". He can be a legend in your mind, but when arguably over half the fan base of the Boston Celtics wouldn't consider him much more than a gun for hire and journeyman then i don't think that word should be used to describe him. Maybe he's a legend in Seattle or Milwaukee but certainly not Boston. Good riddance. Enjoy the divos down there Ray Ray. Ya fit right in brotha.
da bolded is a reach man lol he's a hall of famer he fell of nd declined but he's still a solid player. wit dat said idc dat he's gone anymore

Er. How is Ray Allen a journeyman? That's a stretch.

I haven't had time to check the actual stats...Lord knows I'm glad to have Jet on our team, BUT:

Is he as clutch as Ray?

Maybe we can see Rondo re-enact the first round of the 2009 playoffs, with Ray Allen playing the role of Kirk Heinrich.

Preach on.

Not wanting to dwell on Ray the TRAITAH because I wanted to cut ties with him anyway so none of that creepy ex-girlfriend vibe is in play here.

BUT... JET is going to be a great fit for this team on the floor and the locker room. He seems to be cut out of the KG   cloth and is saying the right things about Rondo.

I think the chemistry on this team is going to be off the charts.
