Trade deadline: It is imperative we go after Josh Smith!

I think that is a pretty solid trade for both teams and I'd take the risk on Smith as he and Rondo are friends so I imagine he would likely re-up.

Haha we are getting screwed in that deal.  Bass is a starting PF, Bradley has the upside of being 1st team All NBA Defense, and Sullinger was our best draft pick since Rondo.  No way.

If they want Jeff Green and 2 1st picks, plus another player/pick, we can talk.

I do not agree Sullinger has more upside than Smith.  He will be a servicable NBA player but I don't think he will be a borderline just below All Star like Smith.

Bass is not a legit starting PF, he is far too limited everywhere except spot up shooting to be a long term answer.  Remember he was only starting last year because of multiple injuries. 

Bradley is hurt a lot and Smith has made an All NBA Defensive team in the recent past.

I'm an Ohio State fan, I was happy to get Sullinger, but he is no where near the player that Josh Smith is.  He may someday get close to Smith, but he isn't even in the same zip code at the moment and if his back really does have issues, he won't ever get in the same zip code.

Josh Smith is by far the best player in that trade.  That means you make the trade and you don't give it a second thought.

I don't recall watching Smith defend Lebron much in the past, but I feel like this guy has all the tools to do so and if Lebron does indeed spend more time at PF this season, teams are going to be hard pressed defending him.  I'd love to acquire Smith as our Lebron defender.

What bout Bass + Green + draft pick for Smith + Korver?  We could sign Pietrus and have Korver as our backup SFs who we could use situationally.  Talent-wise it's pretty fair, but I think Atlanta is really trying to shed future contract obligations though.  The more likely scenario is we don't include our draft pick, but rather include one of: Bradley, Sullinger, or Melo who show to be a good player and we are willing to part with.

Id be tempted to do an AB, Bass/Green trade for J Smith. But im also not enamored with Smith.

I like AB a lot but we do have Lee wrapped up for a few years. I guess it would depend on how AB bounces back.

I've been lead to believe (by people who follow College basketball on this forum) that SUllinger's ceiling is poor man's Carlos Boozer.  I'd take Josh Smith over poor man's Carlos Boozer.

I'd prefer Josh Smith to Boozer too, but Sullinger was a more more highly regarded college player than Boozer so I'm not sure about the "poor man's" part.  Boozer went in the second round of the draft, while Sullinger would have gone even earlier if not for the back issue.

Bass only starts this year because Boston didn't sign anyone that could reasonably start over him, but Bass is one of the worst starting PF's in basketball.

Atlanta will want a combo of cap relief and young players/picks.

We will almost certainly have to give up Avery Bradley, plus at least 1 first rounder if not 2.  Fab Melo might have to go as well.  I actually think that is enough in terms of player talent.

The problem is, I don't think we could make it work under the salary apron.  But value-wise I think that would have to at least intrigue them.  Might just need to fit in another salary or two (perhaps going to a third team).

I kind of thought we signed Bass in order to later acquire a guy like Josh Smith or Al Jefferson (I would rather have Smith). Since we were going over the salary cap anyway, it would have been stupid to lose him for nothing. He is a very solid contributor on a decent contract.

Of course any trade for an upgraded player like Smith would have to include a first since we don't have any expirings, but ideas including three of: Green, Bradley, Lee and Bass along with picks seem a little far fetched - especially for a deadline deal in Smith's last season. We are talking Dwight Howard territory with a combo of these players.
