A tad overpaid.

Lee is only worth around $3.5 to $4 million per annum. So he did well for himself in this deal.

Not a great contract but it's as good as Danny could have done given the level of interest in Lee in this year's free agent market. I don't think he would have been able to sign him for less than $5mil per annum on a long (4 year) contract.

It's a trade-able deal but it'll never have much value.
if Rondo makes him look [dang] good it will

I think he will like having Rondo as his PG, Lee has shot 40% on 3's for 3 out of his 4 years.  He will be making plenty of them here in Boston.

A minimum of 3 years and a maximum of four years,  with only the first year required to be guaranteed.

You don't think it's bit much for a player like, Courtney Lee? This NBA off-season free agency has been sub-par as far as talent, teams are just throwing money at anyone. lol

How much exactly are you expecting to pay for a capable rotation player who can give you spot starts? That's not the MLB, there are only 15 guys on a roster here.

Yup. I actually we got him with a good reasonable deal. His market price (i.e. slight above worth) is probably around 6-7 mil.

Not sure to be honest? 15 Million, maybe? The free agency market as far as 2 guards are starting to dry up. I guess u got to pay. I do know OJ Mayo and Courtney Lee, were the two highly sort after shooting-guards by many teams around the league. So the Celtics were fortunate to snatch him up.

I know once the Celtics signed Lee, the twittersphere brought out the Celtics haters. I checked twitter pages of Marc Spears, Paul Flannery and the haters are flocking to their accounts. lol

I never understood the infatuation with total dollar amount, frankly (another baseball holdover?). First, you're not paying all this money up front. Second, you're not going to find anyone to fill this role for a lower amount per annum, and even if you sign for 3 years / 15 million total, you'll need another player in the fourth year, who will likely be paid about the same.

Lee is a 3yr 10 mil guy! 1yr to long & 10 mil too much. I don't like that we'll pay our 3rd best SG 21-22 million. Hope he is trade material come the deadline because dude is soooo over paid which now makes him over rated.

Fair deal, but why 4 years?

Anyway, sounds like the deal will start at approx 5.05m (essentially MLE money)
Four years is okay. If Lee beats Bradley out for the starter position he is worth it. If he doesn't, he is in a good salary slot for a trade down the road.

Not that I'm advocating it or that either team would do it, but Lee+Green = Josh Smith. So does Lee+Bass and Bradley+Green, does too!

Again, I'm not specifically advocating going after Josh Smith. I'm saying that Danny has arranged salaries so he can combine a couple of good players and make solid offers on any super stars that come on the market. The length of the contracts mean the best chance of getting that next superstar might be a couple of years off, but that's fine with me. We can make runs at the championship with this roster now and be in position to rebuild/reload again in a couple of years.  I'm stoked for the future!

I think Lee and Green are going to take a big step up this year. I'm stoked about the present, too!

You're probably not going to get him for 3 / $10...  Why would you "hope he is trade material"?  Don't we want him to succeed as a Celtic?  Let's let him play for us before we make these foolish assumptions...  I think we may have just found an up-and-comer for this team and I'm excited to see him play with Rondo.  You might want to believe we could get him cheaper, but I'd be willing to be we never could have done that.  I'd suggest that 75% of the NBA is overpaid, so it's time to throw that argument out altogether...

Lee won't be making over 5 million in the first year. Hollinger said it was around 4.6 which fits with the standard 7.5% raises for the total value of the contract.
Green and Bass might start a bit lower, too, given 7.5% raises for their subsequent years.

I'm thinking the C's are sitting just below $70 million now, giving them $4 M, more or less, to fill out the last 3 slots. BAE is 1.9, so last two slots for $2.1 is a little tight, but as the league pays half a vet min contract the C's could squeeze a couple of guys in..I think.
