Melo's complete indifference to trying to get a rebound or even just get into a position to get a rebound really concerned me.

Biggest man on the floor and his ability to gauge where to be, where the ball is going after a shot, how to position oneself for and to go get a rebound were completely lacking. Those are not things one can teach at this level. You have it or you don't.

It appears he doesn't have those abilities.

Sullinger, besides being seriously overweight, looks to be a steal where the C's got him. Dude needs to lose a good 20-25 pounds.

Some people want Melo to be an All-Star. Right now.

I would be happy if he was a basketball player but just general instinctive basketball skills appear to be missing.

I said it before the draft and will say it agian, Melo will be a bust. Still have nightmares over that pick.
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Nicholson and sully would have been a great draft. Melo is lazy and will spend a lot of time in the d league. Rather they picked pj 3

So if Melo is getting ripped already, is everybody marking down Joseph for the all star game this year ?

Gimme a break you guys.

Let the man develop.

What I saw:

*Raw potential on defense
*Even better jumper than I thought he had
*Good screen setter
*Good instincts
*Quick, agile for a big
*Shot block instincts off the charts
*Further along than a high schooler named Kendrick Perkins
*Hard worker

With only 7 years of experience with the game, sky's the limit for this project.  Keyword being, 'project'.

Now develop him.

Just like in College, Melo rarely got touches today. He has a nice jump shot and can throw down the alley. You can't expect moore to be able to throw these lobs

He could work on the turnaround moves and other quick moves to the baskets.

But he was great on defense out there. Love the sick block he had today. Most centres in the nba can't even make that block (i'll try to find a clip up and post).

Rebounding looks good.

Remember something. He was the 22nd pick and not the 5th. He may never be a starter in the nba, but thats ok. Could be a Jeff Foster, PJ Brown type valuable guy off the bench.

Actually the more i think about it, the more he reminds me of Stiemsma and Hollins morphed together.

As for other notes

Moore = slow. He looks fitter than last year but still hasn't gained anymore speed. 6-16 also won't cut it in the nba. Even though he was decent today, at this rate, he won't be brought back.

JJJ = Good at rebounding today but showed very little otherwise. He needs his jump shots to fall.

Sullinger = looks like in better shape. He jumped and ran better today than i have seen in college. Very promising. Like like a man with a purpose. Can't wait to see him at peak shape

Christmas = i really like this guy. He has more potential than moore imo to make the celtics team. He really gets after rebounds, plays strong defense and has a nice jump shot (all nba calibre).  Even if he can't do anything else , with these tools, he could already be a role player in the nba.

Melo is a project...look at Perk coming out of High-school. did anyone ever think he would become the center he has?

im sure he will improve just practicing with Garnett

Good summary. I love the Sullinger pick, but Melo's total lack of court sense was stunning.

Nothing I like about Melo. Nothing.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

I'm going to say it before anyone else says it. Like you said, Perk came out of high school, Fab didn't.

Now that that's out of the way...Melo's bigger and faster. The summer league is the summer league, take it with a grain of salt. It's the first game of the summer league games at that.

He was always going to be a project.

I bet you can't say that in 2015
