3 year 9 million deal. He took half the money to go to the enemy, I hope he suffers every minute he puts on a heat jersey.

So, $9 million = 1/2 of $12 million. Good to know.

3 million a year is half of 6 million a year, check your math

3 is more than 2. My math is just fine.

and 6 is twice 3, fact is fact

It's a fact that ignores the other fact that Ray wouldn't be guaranteed a contract after 2 years if his play declines. The third year matters.

Plus there is no state tax in Florida. The money isn't that big a difference when you look at how much he has made over his career.

Doc Rivers had tried to mend Rondo-Allen issues after season, but one team source says, "They were too far gone."

Don't blame him for wanting to play for a contender.  He has a far greater chance of winning a title (and getting significant minutes) in Miami.

Boston tried shopping him multiple times and thought they had him traded at the deadline for OJ Mayo.  Apparently he doesn't get along with Rondo.  Oh well.

Good luck, Ray.  Beat the Thunder.  (Btw, my friends in Seattle are thrilled that Ray is playing for the good guys)
ROFL.............contender?????

we are a contender....Miami is not a contender they are the reigning champs and are the team to beat in the east right now. We are a contender along with chicago.....maybe a couple other teams...
beat the thunder?

So you are giving up already that Boston has any chance???? wow...just wow......

The reigning champion would be considered the favorite for the title, so your correction actually strengthens his point.

umm no it does not.....Miami did not just contend this year they won it all.. they will be the favorite from the east.....that is not just a contender...your post actually proved my point thanks

The point of his post was that Ray wanted to go somewhere he can win a title. Saying that Miami is more than a contender absolutely proves his point.

This really hurts...Hard to have the Big 3 break up like this, with one of them going to the New Big 3. Thanks for the last 5 years Ray, bad luck in Miami. Look on the bright side: this just means our win against the Heat will be that much sweeter.

Role Players don't make, or break our season.

Banner #18. Go Celtics

TP. At this stage, Ray is a role player.

The Celtics are going to be very fast with Rondo, Bradley and Terry in the back court. When they need to go big, they'll have Pierce, maybe Pietrus, maybe Moore, and even Green.

Lets Go Celtics!!

This was always the risk when Danny shopped him so hard at the deadline over the years.  As Ray said as he entered free agency:

Quote
"I wouldn’t be surprised, but I don’t want to go into this season, like I have in past seasons, worrying about whether I was going to be traded or not. At this point we want to ride it out, take this thing to the house, and not have the instability of knowing whether today or tomorrow something is going to happen."

"For all of us, you deal with that over the course of your career, but wherever I end up after this summer, that has to be the No. 1 mandate. At this time I owe it to my family to be ultimately selfish, because I’ve been a very unselfish team player, and I’ll always do that. But when it comes to myself and my family, I have to make sure that I don’t rock their worlds or put them off kilter in any fashion.".

Sounds like he wanted some stability.

Didn't we offer him a no trade?  He isn't getting that in Miami.

A legacy sounds like stability.  He will never be accepted in Boston again and the Heat have a great team but awful fans.  He's a role player there.

Yea we all know LeBron's a jerk.

But EVERYONE he's played with says.....He's a Great Teammate. So...Its clear Ray was looking for stability on the court.

I cant hate how LeBron is an unselfish and does everything for the team, teammate.

Ugh, *sigh*

There is no way Rondo pushed Ray out the door. Not everyone gets along in the lockerrooms. Imo this is so overblown.

I mean I guess we have a chance.  I thought we really overachieved this year.  Tons of heart, but we overachieved... and frankly got lucky we didn't have to play the Bulls (they would have owned us).  We should be better this year with Jeff Green's addition... so it's conceivable we can make the ECF again if Rose gets hurt again.

I still don't get the hate for the Miami Heat.  It's not like they are the Lakers.  Boston doesn't have a longstanding rivalry with that team.  Miami/New York use to be a rivalry but never Miami/Boston.  I know we just so happened to play against them the past two years and they just so happened to be a better team and beat us... but I have no deepseeded hatred of them.  I actually despise Dwight Howard and the Magic a lot more than I despise LeBron James and the Heat.

Also, Boston ran Ray out of town.  They tried using him as an expiring contract trade chip TWICE.  They benched him for Avery Bradley... then they spent 15 million on Jason Terry.  They treated the hall of fame hero like a role player.  On top of that, he supposedly doesn't like Rondo's attitude... I dont' know the root of that... i just know that Ray tried being a mentor to Rondo early and Rondo stubbornly rejected it (probably why his shooting never improved).  Dunno if it stretches back that far or not, but it's been widely reported there is a rift.  So that's a lockerroom situation that is bad, a GM who keeps trying to dump him and diminishing role despite the fact he still shoots lights out.  Miami's a good spot for him.  He'll get minutes, he'll compete for a title and he'll fit in perfectly with what they are doing there (spreading the floor for LeBron).  Good for him.  The real shame is that we couldn't get anything for him.

A little bewildered.

He was offered twice as much money, has spent the past five years in Boston with PP and KG, loves doc, has his sons doctors in Boston, loves the fans, and Boston is going to be a contender this year.

So why Miami?  I'm sure he believes he'll be getting more playing time there, but really, what is he going to do?  He's going to sit behind the three point line and watch Wade and Lebron play while he is reduced to Mike Miller status.

He is also obviously never going to supplant Wade in the depth chart so best case scenario for him is playing SG or SF when one of those two play the point.  They're great at creating penetration, but neither are remotely close to Rondo as a passer.

I'm just shocked Ray left for the enemy.  He's going out of his way to wave the finger at the Celtics.

lets be honest...danny knew this was coming...that is why he swooped in and signed terry..once ray told him he was visiting miami...it was over...now danny needs to add depth on the bench...at least this is over

He is now the most hated man in Boston...the Mayo trade should have happened...we have no one but Danny to blame. Sure Ray would have ended up with the Heat but we would have had 24 year old young and athletic OJ MAYO!!!
