I know some may think im crazy, but im with Bob Ryan on the fact that I don't think there is a huge difference between Bynum and Howard.
I do.

Howard is a more dominant rebounder and defender, Bynum provides more controlled offense but ultimately Howard produces points at the same efficiency for his career as Bynum has for a single year (only healthy year).

Plus from a standpoint of their current roster Howard would be much more valuable.

I don't really buy it.  I agree that Howard right now is the better defender but if you put Bynum in Orlando next to Anderson and Big Baby I think he would be just as dominant a rebounder.  Second I think Bynum's post game is significantly better than Howards.
On your first point, Dwight howard made a team that played Rashard Lewis at the 4 for massive minutes and then Ryan Anderson one of the best defensive rebounding teams in the entire league. Bynums very good, Howard is dominant.

On your second point, Bynum is a better post player. But people make that more than it is, Howard for 5 years averaged better TS% than Bynum's career best. Howard still scores and scores just as well.

Bynum has steadily improved and is more skilled in many ways.  But he's also a bit slow making his move at times, and his passing out of double teams needs improvement.  Howard's athleticism, rebounding and defense make him more desirable.  Bynum's overall effectiveness seems more dependent on how well he's doing on offense.  I don't think you can go wrong with either guy at this point, but a team built around Howard is more likely to succeed.  He's the stronger franchise player.

Drunk On You is the better song. :-)

Adding Howard (and Nash) still wouldn't make LA an automatic title contender; they'd be better, but whether they can win another title or not depends entirely on Kobe.

I think they'd definitely be a contender.  That doesn't mean they'd win a title, or even be favorites, but they would certainly contend for one.

That's basically what I meant.  They'd be in the mix (moreso than this past season), but they wouldn't be the presumptive favorites.  They'd be one of the three or four best teams in the conference instead of one of the seven or eight best.

I have no idea what his contract situation is but I'd think this deal would really up Perkins' value to the Thunder.

What was it Dan Gilbert said about the Washington Generals?

When/if this happens, about 26 NBA teams effectively become the Washington Generals for the next 5 or so years at least.

Thanks for the TP Smutzy#9.

The whole thing just baffles me. Irritates me and baffles me. You could get 10 deals better than one including Bynum as the centerpiece in a deal for Dwight Howard.

I'm shocked that any GM would consider that deal, mostly because, again:

1. Bynum has "proven" he is a real punk on the court with his hits on Barrea and Beasely and others.

2. It's clear he does not have a lot of heart - I never feel like the kid ever really "pushes" himself out there.

3. He gives up easily when it isn't going well

4. He's had "one", count 'em, "one" healthy season in his career.

5. Wasn't he the guy laughing at the other end of the court when Blake Griffin posterized Pau Gasol? Great teammate...

6. Good luck building anything around that kid.

It's just mind boggling to me...

looks like LA may have hamstringed themselves with giving up two first rounders for Nash according to SI

That's pretty much what I was thinking. Though the way Bynum was playing last year, I'm not sure if Dwight would have been that much of an upgrade, particularly if you consider Lakers having to give picks and other role players to make it happen.

The difference in injury track record, athleticism and defensive ability makes Howard quite the upgrade just about any year.

I think LA is still fine.  Nash was a necessitiy.  they needed a floor general and got him.  Gasol and Bynum still there and Kobe.  Sessions is coming along, and they got that kid outta ???.  They are gonna be something to reckon with again in the West but dwight would definately help.

Yet Howard is coming his biggest injury yet which required back surgery. I know Howard is a big upgrade over Bynum, but looking a team impact I don't think the increase would be that big, particularly with Howard probably having a lesser role than he's ever had before.

That's the first thing I thought of when hearing this.
Perk defends dh better than most anyone else in the league imo. Tp
Back to wanting Joe fired.

Perkins is just as important in defending Bynum, OKC needs him to be a bruiser against those type of Cs.
