How does this improve Orlando's situation? Bynum, like Howard, will be a ufa after the season. Is there any evidence that Bynum has any more interest in re-signing with Orlando than Howard had?
This is why I think the deal, along with LA's lack of picks, isn't a certainty.
If you're Orlando, swapping Howard for Bynum doesn't really solve ANY of the problems with your roster or your salary structure.

Orlando isn't getting an even exchange for Dwight Howard. Such a player, outside of LeBron James, doesn't exist. Bynum is the closest available.
Bynum, World Peace, McRoberts, Eyenga for Dwight, Hedo, Duhon works. Saves Orlando at least $15 million total too.
It doesn't solve their issues though, they get out of one bad contract and maybe get another star center to build around. They get no other piece and no other talent to work with. That's a problem as it won't take long for Bynum to get frustrated.
It solves their main issue though - remaining interesting. Not every team needs to compete for a title every year. The same goes for players. If Bynum gets gaudy stats and gets to start in the all star game every year, I think he will be fine with that scenario.
Getting Bynum for a Howard that is already determined to leave while also shedding Hedo is a great situation for them.
On the other hand, Howard really blew it with his player option. A sign and trade as a free agent would have resulted in a better deal than signing an extension before a trade to the Lakers. This is the problem with sentimentality in contract negotiations.
