I expected to be awakened one day with this sickening news.  I realize it is just speculation, but it ruins my day to think that they will again be atop the league.

Since Chamberlain came to the Lakers it's just been one after the next.  Sometimes it's been great maneuvering, sometimes it's just been luck or because it's LA.  But they have been systematically eating away at the only record that matters.  17.

Dang them. Dang Nash (who goes there for less). Dang Shaq (who went there for less).  Dang Chris Wallace. Dang Kobe (who works out for no one but LA). Dang  Artest (who springs to life in Game 7).  Dang Wilt (reigning MVP traded to LA for pennies).  Dang Kareem (traded to LA for nothing).  Dang Jerry West and Elgin Baylor and Michael Cooper and James Worthy and Pat Riley and Gale Goodrich, and Derek Fischer.  Dang Dwight Howard.  Dang them all.

Obviously the Minny titles don't count. The LA Lakers don't have 16 titles.

That is what I tell myself so I can sleep better at night.

Dwight isn't a Laker.  Why waste energy for something that hasn't happened?  And Shaq: he signed the richest deal in sports history at the time.  Hardly went to the Lakers for less.

Because of your team, Elgin has 0 titles.  Jerry only 1.  If you want to blame one event, it would have to be the coin toss that allowed the Lakers to draft Magic.

I know some may think im crazy, but im with Bob Ryan on the fact that I don't think there is a huge difference between Bynum and Howard.
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

Mentioned this in another thread, but the impact that Howard would have on LA would be much less dramatic than the impact he would have in Brooklyn.  Howard is better than Bynum, but not by a HUGE amount, especially since Bynum's gotten better and Howard's gotten hurt.  Adding Howard (and Nash) still wouldn't make LA an automatic title contender; they'd be better, but whether they can win another title or not depends entirely on Kobe.

I think they'd definitely be a contender.  That doesn't mean they'd win a title, or even be favorites, but they would certainly contend for one.

I do.

Howard is a more dominant rebounder and defender, Bynum provides more controlled offense but ultimately Howard produces points at the same efficiency for his career as Bynum has for a single year (only healthy year).

Plus from a standpoint of their current roster Howard would be much more valuable.

Yeah that's crazy to me Howard is a much better player.  You have to consider too that Howard has never even played with a decent PG and he would really benefit from that.  Bynum is more of an iso post up scorer so we've seen all you are going to get from him.

A lot depends on how Gasol/Howard and Kobe/Nash would mesh.

If they could move Gasol for some more complimentary pieces (stretch 4 and more depth) I think they'd be right there with OKC/Miami.

Howard has benefited from playing 1 in 4 out for most of his career. So while a great PG would be huge for him that system also has helped.

I can't tell you how often my wife and yelled at Jameer Nelson about his awful vision on the P&R and poor post entry passing. Jerk shouldn't have "opted in", I wanted the C's to at least make a pitch to him and then have him go to the Nets.

The fact that he could be a Laker.....ugh...

Next to LA...can anybody be happier than Stern over this news !

10 years of LA vs Miami for Championships . ???

Eventually Bynum goes to HEAT , Wade is traded and LBJ and LA go at it for 5 years in a row.  Or till kobe is too old to score 30 points a game.

I don't really buy it.  I agree that Howard right now is the better defender but if you put Bynum in Orlando next to Anderson and Big Baby I think he would be just as dominant a rebounder.  Second I think Bynum's post game is significantly better than Howards.

Agreed on Nelson I've never been a fan and can't believe they brought him back.  He's an undersized 2.

Yeah tell me about it with the Lakers... was somewhat okay with it until they got Nash now it is a real issue.  Someone who can throw the lob would turn him into a true offensive threat.

Also, would love to have a wife that yells about the pick and roll one day  ;D
