Am I the only one not really happy with this? Bass is a pretty good offensive player but his lack of defense KILLED us in the Miami series and in many situations throughout the playoffs. I don't have a problem with him coming back if his role is significantly diminished to a 15-20 minute per night guy but we need guys who can guard the 3-4. At this point, who guards LBJ in the playoffs? I sure hope it isn't Bass...
Watch the 4th quarter of game 7 of that Miami series. Bass let Lebron get past him EVERY time down the court. I was screaming at my TV that whole quarter to get this guy off the court - he is a liability.
Yeah, but who else would we have put out there? There aren't too many players who can guard LeBron in that situation, and Bass wasn't getting much help D behind him. I agree 100% that I hope he's around for a bench role, and 100% agree that I don't love his D... but he was good enough to help up get to the ECF. Takes a little of the pressure off trying to find another PF, or to force the kids into playing before they're ready.
Yeah you're talking about a guy no one could guard in LeBron James. I've said it before and I'll say it again: our problem was not defense, it was scoring. If we could score at the end of that game we win.
He's a great back up and if we start him, well, we almost went to the Finals with him as our starting PF.
I'm happy.
