AP: Ray Allen is staying in Miami overnight, as talks with Heat continue.

 :-[ That's not good

What's there to talk about? It's not like they're negotiating salary. Is he asking for playing time, or a certain number of shots per game? Is he trying to negotiate for a starting spot?

EXACTLY my point. There really was not that much to discuss for this meeting to happen in the first place. We didn't see Steve Nash flying around to meet with teams. And he would have had a bigger role on any team he was eventually signed to.

I've been in denial for the past week or so but I'm starting to see the light.

He's waiting for boston to sweat and up their offer.

There's no reason to raise their offer if it's already double what he's going to get.

Ray Allen left his hotel w/ his representatives at around 8 to meet a Heat contingent. By now, you may have seen photos.

 They're meeting now.

I heard that his meeting was rescheduled for a later time because Riley was in LA. So perhaps that's why he's staying overnight.

Apparently there's photo's on some dudes twitter of Spo, Mourning, Riley and the Heat's owner out to dinner and Ray signing something... (I highly doubt its a contract since the whole July 11th deal) Hopefully it was just Ray signing for the check and saying thanks but no thanks

Yeah wishful thinking but still  :-\

Apparently Riley is there and Ray is sitting next to Alonzo Mourning. Just end this crap already.
Signed to a 6 year $0 contract with the Celtics Blog forum!

It does look legit though and yeah that's what I figure he'd have dinner with them and leave in the morning. Now if there are ongoing talks tomorrow well he's as good as gone.

Doubt anything of importance would be signed today. And definitely not in public like that.

The whole situation is annoying though. A decision needs to be made.

Yeah, seriously, if you're gonna scoop a story like that at least get some decent quality pics.

Those don't even classify as "passable".

It doesn't look great for Ray staying here.

Can't help but wonder if he's staying around to help the Heat set up a S+T - that's the one way he could still get paid more and play there.  If so, I wonder what we'd potentially get back.  Norris Cole would be nice.

My hope is that he just wants to be whined and dined and recruited.  It's got to be a cool experience, even for superstars.  That's my rationalization.

The Heat’s pursuit of one of the greatest deep shooters in NBA history went deep into Thursday night.

Ray Allen, the 10-time All-Star who has spent the past five seasons with the Celtics, arrived in Miami early Thursday afternoon, met with Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra, spent some time out in the sun, and then met a larger Heat contingent – one that included Alonzo Mourning, Andy Elisburg and Nick Arison in addition to Riley and Spoelstra — at a popular downtown Miami restaurant for dinner.  Originally, Allen was supposed to fly to Los Angeles on Friday to meet with the Clippers but, after the Clippers signed Jamal Crawford and Chauncey Billups and canceled Allen’s visit, there was no particular rush.

Now the question is how quickly Allen will come to a decision. There is no mystery about what the Heat can offer, a three-year contract worth roughly $9.3 million. Even after agreeing to terms with Kevin Garnett, Jason Terry and Brandon Bass, and even while reportedly on the verge of re-signing Jeff Green, the Celtics can offer more. They cannot, however, necessarily offer more playing time than Miami, due to a crowded backcourt that includes Terry, Rajon Rondo and Avery Bradley, the young defensive stalwart who supplanted Allen as a starter during the 2011-12 season.

The Heat could have more minutes available, especially after Dwyane Wade, who is 30 and is missing the Olympics to have knee surgery, played after more rests and in shorter stints last season. Wade and LeBron James have aggressively courted Allen on Twitter, with James even re-tweeting a photo of Allen in a Heat uniform.
