great news, now we need to get Ray Allen and Jeff Green.

A bench consisting of Terry, Ray Allen and Jeff Green can score 20 pts easily, maybe even 30. Thats a big upgrade from last year. It's a bench that we can rely on for scoring.

Getting more and more excited for next year!

@Roy.... Scalabrine has championship pedigree & I'm not clamoring to get him back.

I'd take Scal back, but there's an entire world of difference between he and Terry.  As I said, Terry can play.

I don't see a lot of better players out there.  O.J. Mayo wants more than the MLE, and Terry is currently a better player.  Nick Young is a chucker, as is Jamal Crawford.  What other "instant offense" type players could we have signed with our MLE?

I have no problem with DA signing the jet.  I think Terry still has something left.  He can fill into multiple lineups with us.  His ball handling skills mean we can play him with RR, AB or RA and have a good pair of guards on the floor at all times.  I do hope we can resign RA or get another 2 guard that has some size.  Terry can fill a bit of the RA scoring role, but he isn't big enough to guard some of the larger 2 guards we will face.  I guess that is why we would resign MP?  Even a rotation of RR, AB, JT, and MP would be good.

Now if we can only find another starting big for cheap...

play JET at the point and ray at the 2 off the bench..

And Ray can play 3 and Green can play 4 on a small lineup so plenty of flexibility off the bench, which I love.

@Roy.... Scalabrine has championship pedigree & I'm not clamoring to get him back. We need youth & athleticism & size to oair with the old dogs, not just another old dog! I know Jet can ball no doubt but it's a weird fit here being Bradley already isn't a prototypical SG himself. If he is our backup PG im ok with that, but can he guard the Wade's & Kobe's & Harden's? Because we are gonna need that from him.

C'mon dude with the Scal comment.  On a serious note don't belittle Terry he's the 3rd biggest contributor to Dallas' championship.

We've seen Avery guard Wade plenty well, the best among the SG's you mentioned.  I'm not worried.  You're picking apart a back up here.

rondo, JET, ray, jeff green and sully...that would be a fun line up

There is noway an agent would agree to a "deal" with a team and have it be published in the media and then back out before they signed. It would be such bad business for the agent. It's just the ethics of the business once you agree to a deal it takes them off the market and other teams respect that.
Unless you're Elton Brand or Carlos Boozer.  ;)

You're right though, players/agents don't back out of deals very often for the reasons you state.

Didn't Turkuglu do this, too?
Oh yeah, and he even had the media blame his wife for it!

In those situations more money was at stake and we are talking about huge contracts. In a situation were the money is going to be the exact same, I doubt the agent would allow the client to back out.

When its a lot more money and long term deal thats different

I suspect that is why they want Ray back as well, because no, Terry isn't going to be asked to cover those guys much, that will be for Bradley, who has shown he can cover Wade, and perhaps Allen.  As to the age question, that is another reason to get both Terry and Ray, since they are both advancing in age, they each have to do less and both should be fresher for the playoffs.

I am actually more concerned about Ray than Terry though in terms of limiting his minutes.  We all might think its best for a 37 yr old guard to play less, Doc and Danny may think so too, but I think Ray still wants to play 35 minutes a game.  Also, like starting pitching, figuring out how everyone can get minutes in an 82 game season, discounts the almost certainty that someone will do down for any # of games.  This kind of depth protects against any major dips if/when one of them is out.

that's. Sort of the point I was yet to make, we use the MLE on a position we are just duplicating. We should went & bought the best Center or PF/C we could find with the MLE. I agree with a earlier poster who said it's a improper allocation of funds! Last I checked Jason Terry couldn't help correct our rebounding woes.

http://espn.go.com/boston/nba/story/_/id/8127255/boston-celtics-jason-terry-closing-contract-sources-say

In the article Marc Stein says "  Sources familiar with the Dallas Mavericks' thinking told ESPNDallas.com that the team, coveting financial flexibility, is unlikely to match the Celtics' offer to Terry"

Can't say I'm thrilled about this.  I have a hard time seeing enough time for Rondo/Bradley/Terry/Allen.  Allen might very well be gone.

Ray might be gone anyway; it certainly looked that way at the end of this season.  This looks like Danny hedging his bets - we have a guy to step into (most of) Ray's role if he leaves, and tremendous guard depth if he doesn't.  Either way I don't think this makes a major difference in Ray's decision.

The real guy who should be sweating right now is E'Twaun Moore.  He's running out of role to fill in a hurry.

The more I crunch the numbers the more I think Ray's gone. There's just not enough minutes. I think Ainge saying he wanted to bring on both was his way of saving face in negotiations with Ray if Terry fell through.

I think we're hoping for a sign and trade opportunity, and I'm not sure it'll be there.

yep. not just depth to keep our starters fresh but SCORING DEPTH. The kind where when PP and KG sit we do not fall apart offensively and/or defensively. If Melo can step in and play D and score what he can and Sully can score down low we will be very, very dangerous. Need JJJ to step up at the 4 sport now.
LET'S GO CELTICS!

Turk signed essentially the same deal in Toronto.

Boozer did make more money but the verbal was mostly a scam to become a FA earlier. Brand made more money based on the Clippers announced verbal agreement, but the Clippers claim they could have made a few minor moves if the 2 or 3 million was the real difference.

Note on Terry from Paul Flannery

Quote
Paul Flannery ‏@Pflanns
Still, Terry has been incredibly consistent and he plays. He's missed just 16 game sin the last five years.

I think there will still be plenty of minutes for Ray if we can convince him to come back. Let's not forget that there aren't many teams with good big men, so we play a lot of three guard rotations, and Bradley could be out for a while.

i feel confident going against miami from this point forward. it took everything they had to get by a depleted boston team

factor in that wade had had surgery and the fact that Bradley can lock him down defensively...boston needs bodies to throw at lebrick...PP. Jeff Green, Peaches
