Rumored deal according to Broussard is:

Lopez, Humphries, Brooks, 2013 1st, 2015 1st, 2017 1st

for

Howard

First...it is Broussard.

Second...that really is a lukewarm deal.  2017 1st rounder!!

Third...the Nets will literally have no one left on their roster.
The Nets would literally have Deron Williams (top 3 point guard), Joe Johnson (6 time allstar), Dwight Howard (top 4 player/best big in the game) and Gerald Wallace.  Literally.

According to Merriam-Webster his use of literally is valid. I was surprised and find it ridiculous that a word can have two meanings that are opposite. I wonder if this second usage was added to accommodate for misuse. Either way I certainly "could care less".. because I care way too much.

Very good top 4 players, but filling out the roster will be a challenge.
In much the same way that it was for us in 2008 or the Heat the last couple of years.  FA's will want to go there.
Sort of, both the C's and the Heat had several role players already locked up.

C's had Rondo/Perkins/Scal/Tony Allen/Power/Davis

Heat had Haslem/Chalmers/Anthony

They can do it, but it'll be tough for the first year.
True, but a great many people wondered about the viability of Rondo and Perk in the starting unit, and Powe and Davis were rookie second rounders (who happened to pan out quite nicely).  I see a lot of similarities still, but your point is taken.

Yeah but they were bodies at that point, the Heat's guys had all played in the NBA with some success as well.

The Nets will have sent out their entire roster nearly, they'll have to go find those guys on the FA market with only limited salary options to offer. (and their picks pledged in a trade)

Definitely a contender, but probably not a title squad till they round it out after a year.

Maybe after the trade Orlando would release Marshon Brooks and he can come to the Celtics  :)

I see it taking at least a year too.

Of those guys, Haslem would have been regarded as a quality reserve, and Chalmers and Anthony were regarded as mediocrities.  Still see a lot of similarities between the Nets situation and ours and Miami's. People regarding the team as a group of stars with (largely) unknown quantities or aging (former quality) vets looking to latch on to a winner and willing to take less money to do so.

The Nets would have four quality starters though, already giving them the one up on Boston and Miami (as it turned out obviously Rondo and Perkins did quite well as starters, but that wasn't known at the time).  The Nets would still own the rights to a number of players they could bring back, like Gerald Green, Sheldon Williams, Jordan Williams, Damion Jones, Sundiata Gaines, Armon Johnson.  It isn't like they have just 4 people around.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I'd group those guys as being D-League replacement level guys for the most part. Not really "assets" as you can get similar guys as FAs as well.

Though Shelden/Green could surprise I guess.

Haha. Noting the two former Celtics as the two guys who could surprise. Sheldon easily has the lowest ceiling of any of those players.  He won't surprise anyone.  His development is complete and he sucks.

Gerald still has room for growth.

Jordan Williams was traded to the Hawks.

Sundiata Gaines, Armon Johnson, and Damion Jones are nothing to get too excited about.  Mild potential, but mild potential is found pretty easily in the NBA.

It looks like a lot of smoke on this one, but little fire.

I am starting to get the feeling that Orlando will hold the league hostage yet another season as we wait for the D12 situation to resolve itself.

Let the rumors fly and the Dwightmare rise from it's firey ashes!!!

Could someone explain to me how this deal works?  If the Nets bring in Johnson, Williams, Gerald and Howard, isn't that plus whatever else they have under contract essentially $70M?

Would they not have less than $4M in the MLE to fill out their roster before they are entirely dependent on the vet minimum?

Yeah, they'd have the Taxpayer's MLE ($3 million), plus the vet minimum, plus a couple of trade exceptions, I believe.

Their top seven could potentially be, depending upon who they acquire from Orlando:

Howard
Wallace / S. Williams
Turkuglu / G. Green
Johnson
Deron

That's a thin team, but a viable one.
