Rumored deal according to Broussard is:

Lopez, Humphries, Brooks, 2013 1st, 2015 1st, 2017 1st

for

Howard

First...it is Broussard.

Second...that really is a lukewarm deal.  2017 1st rounder!!

Third...the Nets will literally have no one left on their roster.
The Nets would literally have Deron Williams (top 3 point guard), Joe Johnson (6 time allstar), Dwight Howard (top 4 player/best big in the game) and Gerald Wallace.  Literally.

Plus G$ and the MLE.

The Nets may also take Hedu back, if they can somehow match the extra $$$. Maybe Hump can S&T for $25 million a year?

pg Williams
sg JJ
sf Hedu
pf Wallace
c Howard

b G$
b MLE player

That's a pretty good 6/7 man rotation. Grant it, it would take a season to work out the kinks and develop some team synergy. However, they should be contenders going forward (if the trade goes down) and a Ying to the Heat's Yang. They would be very strong at Miami's weak points.

The Cs match up well with Rondo and Bradly's D on the guards. PP & KG have a good adv at the forwards. However, Howard dominates the C... at least until Melo "perks" up. A playoff series between the two teams would be a blood bath and a lot of fun.

Here's hoping the Dwightmare ends with this trade going down.

Brooklyn is over the cap after trading for Joe Johnson, signing Wallace and potentially signing Deron. How are the Nets going to sign Dwight if they don't have the cap space to do so?

This is the exact same scenario in which we acquired and re-signed KG (even though we were well over the cap).  The team that gets Dwight in a trade gets his Bird Rights as part of the deal.  That means they can go as far over the cap as they want to re-sign him.  There are no restrictions there, other than the luxury tax.  But since the Nets are owned by the 3rd richest human being in the entire world, I don't think the tax will be an issue.

  • Let's Go Celtics!
that's an awful package for Dwight Howard, our offer could beat that.

Bradley >> Brooks
Green > Humphries
Bass < Lopez

Our 2nd rounders are arguably worth more than the Nets in 13, 15,17 seeing how they are probably in the 28-30 range. Our picks are early 2nd rounder, non guaranteed plus we got Melo, and JJJ.

But doens't matter,Dwight will only sign extension with Brooklyn.

Let's go get Smith , without giving up Bradley somehow! be creative Ainge.

We can't sign & trade Green due to the new CBA.

But yeah, that Brooklyn team is gonna be GOOD. Pihkarov must be willing to spend spend spend.

PG: D.Will
SG: J.Johnson
SF. G.Wallace
PF: ?
C: D12

It make take them some time to come together, but those parts are more complimentary than Miami and WAY more complimentary than the Knicks.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

Good news is... the Nets have been willing to give up anything other than Deron for a shot at Dwight, because they are desperate to keep Deron.

A team of Joe Johnson, Deron Williams, Dwight Howard and scrubs?

I'd happily send out Brandon Bass, Fab Melo and a 1st rounder if I'm taking back Brook Lopez.  Boston could do far worse than a 24 year old 7 footer true center who already proves capable of dumping 20 a night.
He's a RFA, you'll have to pay him to keep him. Same thing with Kris Humphries, he needs to get paid too.

That's why this is a particularly unattractive package, they're only getting one player who's cost controlled (Brooks) and a bunch of low first round picks. Lopez isn't signing for less than what 11 million per year, quite possibly more. Humprhies probably wants 8 million plus per year...

Not a good package unless they can get the two main components for much cheaper deals than I picture them demanding in this scenario.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
So now I see that the Joe Johnson trade was agreed to 'in principle' by the Nets and Hawks.

Smells like the Nets are baiting the Magic into moving Howard before they spend all their cap room on Johnson.
Genius.

What would the odds be that Johnson was never truly being looked at by the Nets, and they were suckering the Hawks into negotiations to speed up their acquisition of Dwight?

Magic GM MUST move on this before he gets nothing for DH12.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Read that last line again. One more time.

The Nets don't really have cap room involved in this proposed trade, it'd be a double sign and trade to make the salary work.

I don't think anyone else would try to take Wallace off their hands at 10 million per year either.

Very good top 4 players, but filling out the roster will be a challenge.

Broussard was puffing up the offer when I listened to him, I wonder which team leaked this report and wants him to talk up how this is a "good" deal for the Magic.

I'm guessing its the Nets who are trying to capture the news cycle to push Deron to come back.

C's are in trouble in the East if this goes down.  The Nets will have a Big Four and who will we have, aging vets.  What was it Danny said to Red again?

I forgot, JKidd is also part of the Williams package. I am not sure what type of deal he would sign, maybe the bi-annual BAE, not the MLE though. That's rumored to go to a Bosnian.

So the 10 man rotation (with guesses for exceptions) for the Net may look like:

pg Williams
sg JJ
sf Hedu
pf Wallace
c  Howard

b G$ - Green's Bird Rights are owned by the Net.
b JKidd - BAE
b Mirza Teletovic - MLE
b $3M trade exception
b $1.3M trade exception

Oddly enough, no team offered a Schrempf and Perkins type of package for KG or Ray

That's not what I meant by bringing up them being over the tax. My point was that if the Magic don't agree to trade him to Brooklyn he won't be able to sign there as an FA

I'm pretty sure he meant, that next summer the Nets will be over the cap and can't sign Dwight as a free agent, so the Magic should just call Dwight's bluff.

With the new sign and trade rules going into effect next summer, the only way a player can be sign and traded for max dollars is if he goes to a team that is under the salary cap.  This is what the new CBA did (in addition to the much more punitive tax structure), those components just aren't in effect yet.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

And when Danny did try to move Ray for a young SG it fell apart due to said SG's objections.
