  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
C's are in trouble in the East if this goes down.  The Nets will have a Big Four and who will we have, aging vets.  What was it Danny said to Red again?

They'd have a slight edge at shooting guard with Johnson vs Avery when Johnson is on offense, but Avery will run him around all night and pester him to no end.
Other than that I'd rather no one guarding Dwight more than KG in a 7 game series.
Pierce is a huge upgrade over Hedo who is now a bonafide, certified chucker. Wallace vs... Bass? A Wash for the most part.

Our bench will be one of the best in the NBA. Green and Terry?
Or if we have Camby to take care of Dwight and KG on Wallace?
Nets will be nasty but they won't have their way with us by any means.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Brooklyn is over the cap after trading for Joe Johnson, signing Wallace and potentially signing Deron. How are the Nets going to sign Dwight if they don't have the cap space to do so?

This is the exact same scenario in which we acquired and re-signed KG (even though we were well over the cap).  The team that gets Dwight in a trade gets his Bird Rights as part of the deal.  That means they can go as far over the cap as they want to re-sign him.  There are no restrictions there, other than the luxury tax.  But since the Nets are owned by the 3rd richest human being in the entire world, I don't think the tax will be an issue.
I'm pretty sure he meant, that next summer the Nets will be over the cap and can't sign Dwight as a free agent, so the Magic should just call Dwight's bluff.

Or Houston should. Trade for Dwight and see if he wants to sign a MLE level contract with Brooklyn next summer.

The Nets would literally have Deron Williams (top 3 point guard), Joe Johnson (6 time allstar), Dwight Howard (top 4 player/best big in the game) and Gerald Wallace.  Literally.
The only silver lining in this is that that nucleus is likely better than Miami's nucleus.

Woj is pretty in touch. So, I am guessing that this is fact. I am not sure who would take on Hump though. Especially for $9 - $12 million per year.

Maybe the Nets should put out the Kahn signal?

Honestly given the direction of the team, I'd be more than happy to take on Humphries at that price and let Bass walk.  I just don't think Boston has the pieces anyone in that trade would want (and obviously that Boston would move for Humphries).
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Reports are that the Magic are also trying to get the Lakers/Mavericks/Rockets/Hawks involved.

Sounds like they're going full bore trying to get the best offer, ownership must have finally given the new GM the green light.

I'm pretty sure he meant, that next summer the Nets will be over the cap and can't sign Dwight as a free agent, so the Magic should just call Dwight's bluff.

With the new sign and trade rules going into effect next summer, the only way a player can be sign and traded for max dollars is if he goes to a team that is under the salary cap.  This is what the new CBA did (in addition to the much more punitive tax structure), those components just aren't in effect yet.
I agree.  There may be a team or two with the stones to do a trade for DH without assurances of a re-sign (Lakers or Houston).  As noted, Brooklyn will no longer have the the money to just sign DH outright as a FA.  The new traded to team will have his Bird rights, and at the end of the day, he wouldn't walk away from a contract that paid him tens of millions more than he'd get by trying to sign with his preferred Nets.  They'd be out of the running.  It'd be Houston or LA that'd be calling his bluff, and I hope that's the way it goes down.  I'm tired of these players holding their teams (and the cities they play in) hostage.  I don't want that sort of chump-like behavior rewarded.

I would agree except Miami has one guy: Lebron James  :'(

Very good top 4 players, but filling out the roster will be a challenge.
In much the same way that it was for us in 2008 or the Heat the last couple of years.  FA's will want to go there.

Screw them. I hope they collide and both lose.

Hump to the Cs? I say yes, although helping the Nets get Howard is not the way to do it. Perhaps if the deal falls through he would sign a MLE? Maybe.

Hump would also delay the development of JJJ & Sully. However, he is a gamer and the Cs could use a plus-rounder.

I believe the fans would be slow to warm to Hump from his KK days, but his night-in night-out hustle would eventually win out.

Sort of, both the C's and the Heat had several role players already locked up.

C's had Rondo/Perkins/Scal/Tony Allen/Power/Davis

Heat had Haslem/Chalmers/Anthony

They can do it, but it'll be tough for the first year.
