For what it's worth Stephen A. likes the Melo pick, but thinks Sully's game doesn't translate well to the NBA.

Excellent!!!!!!!

Well, based on that....Melo will be out of the league before the end of his contract and Sullinger will be a 10-time all-star and have his number retired.

I wish steven would have weighed in before the draft so we didn't waste the pick on Melo.

hold up Fab Melo is 22? smh dat makes me even more heated at dat wack pick he's a stiff

He's from Brazil an was a soccer player most of his life.  Picked up B-Ball only 5 years ago.  Despite being new to the game, he apparently already has NBA level skills with regard to sho-blocking and some aspects of defense.

So in Melo we have a huge guy who is athletically skilled enough to play at a high level despite only 5 years playing and being coached.

Seems like a risk worth taking.

PJ111 was a risk worth taking!!!  Boston should have got a Center off the many to be amnestied this summer  (Perkins,Hayward ect...)

However, the fact that Stiff Melo played soccer is a huge plus in my book.  Hakeem, Steve Nash soccer players......

HA!

You know, as disappointed with the draft as I am, this is oddly a little bit reassuring to me.

So, what did good ole' Skippy have to say?  Hopefully he busted on Sully too.  Then it's a lock he'll be a stud.

I agree entirely.

We will see, but I'm not buying into all the Cuse love on this board today. Maturity and indifference are two HUGE problems in a basketball player, at any level. Oftentimes, they are career killers.

So confused how you can have that attitude and endorse a PJIII pick...

Much respect for your opinion and completely agree when the immaturity and indifference are directly related to the effort someone puts into basketball.

Melo's immaturity which was exhibited to us by his indifference to his studies which resulted in him not being able to play basketball is different from his not wanting to improve his body and his skills to play basketball.

A young adult who makes a poor decision (this educational indifference cost him dearly in draft position and consequential $$$$, not just his team) hopefully learns from that poor decision and doesn't let it define him. Nor should we necessarily define him by it>

He has improved his body and his bball skills tremendously over just one year. I don't think that he is indifferent to working at basketball.

We will certainly see now, and I agree that he has the physical tools to be at least adequate.

Just saying that I would have preferred a more skilled athlete - PJIII - if we're going to roll the dice on these very significant and difficult to overcome character flaws. The upside of success with Jones is FAR higher.

Please explain a little better how drafting a player with a known bulging disk qualifies as a "smart" draft???????????

Hopefully the same way drafting a player with a known ankle injury qualified as "smart" two years ago.

I love the people who think Sully was a bad pick, but still somehow think that PJ3 would have been a good pick.  ::)

Boston already has JJJ and, hopefully, KG.  Then Ainge added Sully.  At that point, drafting another guy to play the same position would have been stupid.  I suppose you can argue for Jones over Sully, but not over Melo.  In addition, a credible center is FAR more valuable and hard to find than a credible power forward, so the upside is all in Melo's favor as well.

The brain-dead jamele hill dug deep into her scouting report and called Sullinger another Big Baby Davis.  What a brilliant, uncliche'd opinion from an idiot who has probably seen neither of them play.

With the deadly accuracy of steven i smith....Along with the most intellectually vacant "journalist" in the history of sports...Agreeing that Sullinger was a bad choice....

You done good, Danny.

Strongly disagree. Draft best available and let the players sort it out on the court. If the rotation becomes over crowded make a trade. That's not a bad problem to have versus passing up talent for a long shot at a position of need.

Besides, what about option three? Exercise the Clippers pick next season, or in 2014 or 2015.

I really don't think this was the plan.  I think that these were our fall back guys.  This draft didn't go as planned for anyone.

I don't think option three is valid, Dubs. The Celtics did not have the ability to roll that pick over indefinitely.

I agree on the BPA strategy, though. I was hoping Ainge would take both Sullinger and Jones, and then figure out a way to either get back into the 1st/early 2nd for Melo, or take Sacre at #51.
