Houston sends #16 to Boston
Boston sends #21 and #22 to Houston
Houston then trades #22 and Dalembert to the Lakers for their LO trade exception.
Houston wants to get rid of Dalembert, LA wants to get in the first round, Boston looking to move up in the draft.
Houston looking to move Dalembert, but I don't think that necessarily means they're looking to give anything up to move him.
Dalembert is 7 million this season, 7 million next. There are a lot of teams out there who would jump pretty high at the chance to get a starting defensive center at 7 million for 1 more season.
Where are you getting that salary info. What I have seen, he is on the books for just $7 million (ish) next season...and that is only guaranteed for $1.5 million. Making him a very valuable (essentially) expiring contract.
My guess is they are trying to use him to move up, by taking on someones bad contract.
I phrased that wrong. By this season I meant like..now. THe one that is almost over.
So next season its 7 million, I didn't even know it was partially guaranteed.
Ah, right. Basically, the bottom line is that Dalembert is guaranteed $1.5 million, but can be traded for a salary of $10.5 million. That is very valuable.
Yeah wow that's a great asset and great contract for Houston. Morey with another smart move.
What are the situations where they can put this into use?
One possibility, as mentioned above by others, is a team like Atlanta with an unhappy star but does Houston would probably have to move picks #14 AND #16 or move Lowry/Martin with one of the picks.
New Orleans would've been a good option as they could've shed Ariza's contract for just 1.5 million and taken Houston's 14 for 10 but Wizards took away BOTH their bad contracts and allowed them to keep their picks for "just" $14 million.
LA could absorb Dalembert with their T.E. but they don't have any assets to offer Houston. Houston can trade for Gasol similar to Smith. Scola, Dalembert, #14 and Kevin Martin for Gasol and T.E. or something like that.
