11 12 (188) 4:55 PM Magic (Start Orien) Kenyon Martin
11 15 (191) 5:10 PM Jazz (bdm860) Nene
11 16 (192) 5:15 PM Heat (RebusRankin)
Two excellent picks. I am shocked that both lasted this long.
Especially Kenyon Martin who I think will be one of the best backup PFs in the league. Terrific defender, solid defender and solid offensive player. I thought he would have gone in 5th or 6th round. He would have been a very nice guy to round out someone's starting lineup.
Kenyon Martin was one of the main guys I was considering had I not taken Shawn Kemp and again considered strongly when drafting Serge Ibaka.
I strongly considered Martin instead of Barbosa, but don't actually think Martin is well suited in this type of situation. He was never a very strong rebounder, has limited offensive moves, and while he was a good defender, I certainly wouldn't call him elite and he never made an All Defensive team. In addition the years he was at best defensively he was a much more limited offensive player (often below 100 in ORTG). He also was rarely healthy. Just not the type of guy you really want coming off the bench. Probably would have been fine as a starter (in a more shallow league), but not a good bench player. Just my take and why I passed on him for Barbosa, who is definitely suited for a bench role.
I'm not really following your logic on why he's not a good bench player.
He finished 2 seasons with the Nets, so not a real problem there. And if anything, I'd think his offensive limitations would be better served in this format as an energy guy. Finishing breaks, tip in dunks, etc.
And while he didn't make any all defensive teams he did have the 4th his defensive rating in 03-04. I haven't the least idea what that means, but I assume it's real impressive.
