Have a lunch meeting.  Who can I leave my 2 player list with?
I pick right after you so I can put your pick in.

Questions to the panelist.

Is it better to start T.Hill of D.Lee?

David Lee will crowd Ewing IMO. Bad fit there. Closest fit I see if PJ Brown.

I disagree Commish. Lee can step out and take midrange shots. He can stay around 15-18 feet to give Ewing some space to work.

Ewing worked pretty well with Chuck Oakley. PJ Brown is the logical selection.

I don't think so (says the one panelist weighing in ;)).  Brown is a nice player, but you can't run out a starting lineup that includes Doug Christie and P.J. Brown and hope to keep up with the other teams in this league.

Yoki needs scoring in his lineup more than he does another tough role player.  Lee makes more sense.

I still like Ewing and Smits.

I kind of like it too but most disagree that Ewing can't keep up with the faster PF's.

Younger Ewing was faster then the image most of us have in out head (older Ewing with bad knees)

On the flip side, how many of the quick PFs can handle Ewing down low?

True. Points taken sir.

sounds good.  I just wasn't sure when Bahku would show up or if someone else may have had his list.

Off topic, since this is the trending thread:

Andre Drummond interviewed by the C's he said as he's being interviewed in the draft combine right now.

Celtics will move up for him?

Still, he's a little slow for the position, and Smits is certainly not quick footed. To me, the issue is more with the Dunkin Dutchman: I don't think he brings you quite enough to warrant the speed disadvantage you'd have.

The Mavericks will add some beef, some talent, and a head case all wrapped into one (kind of like my starting center).

C - Demarcus Cousins

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah

David Lee is a stat-padder on bad teams. He cannot defend either big man position and he does not box out. On a winning basketball team, he is nothing more than limited third option to solid fourth option who can get 15-16ppg on mediocre scoring efficiency.

PJ Brown is a high level defender/rebounder who boxes out his man. A limited offensive threat but he has a solid midrange jumper and is a reasonable finisher in the paint who can get you 10-12ppg on mediocre scoring efficiency.

In this Historical League, PJ Brown will give you about 85-90% of a David Lee will give you offensively (where Lee will see a decrease in scoring opportunities) while still being a plus defender and rebounder unlike David Lee who is going to be a whopping liability.

He would be a top 2-3 C if he was playing today.

His teams had strong team defenses.

The Hawks will also add some beef and shot blocking.

Ummm...KG and Tim D politely raise their hands in unison, like this young man:

I'm not arguing how good he was by any means, but to me it's like combining Bynum and Marc Gasol. They're top notch talents, but I think too slow footed to be truly effective together.

Agreed -- the issue is not Ewing as much as it's Smits.

This team has a chance to put together a terrific defensive team with very good balance offensively. That is the direction they should go in. Then use Smits as a game-changing offensive option off the bench.

Just because you start PJ Brown doesn't mean he needs to play 30-35 minutes a game. They can give him a part time starter's role in the 15-20 minute range, or the 20-24 minute range, or the 26-28 minute range. Even with starting a PJ Brown, there will be plenty of opportunity to bring in a Rik Smits and get him major minutes with many of those minutes coming alongside Ewing.

To continue, I think a good example of this was the Denver - LAL series. Even though the Lakers did win, they were a vastly superior team but Denver kept in it because Bynum simply couldn't keep up in transition costing them tons of easy baskets in transition.

When talent levels are going to be much closer, I think a Ewing-Smits combo would get whipped.
