I saw two bad technical fouls called.  Miami (IIRC) made one of two of those.  We stormed back after those to play well.

We lost it in the third quarter because shots just didn't drop.  I felt the calls, in general, were fair (I saw a couple phantoms each way).

After game 1, I'm almost certain that we can absolutely win this.  We're supposed to lose game 1.  If we can grab game 2 (and again, I'm not going to say it's a must-win because it's not), we'll have a good stranglehold on the series.  We're not going to hit ~50% from the stripe again, and we can very easily shoot 40+%, even against Miami's D.  I think the only thing really hurting us are Ray Allen's inflated minutes.  The sky isn't falling.  Despite playing shooting like crap, we were completely in it for quite awhile.

The reffing was biased but the Heat were outplaying us. The officiating affected the game but didn't determine it.

However, the NBA should have a look at it.

Considering what refs allowed them to get away with is it any wonder the Heat was playing better? Would have been nice to see the result without refs interfering.

UNFAIR officiating is still unfair officiating no matter who wins the game. The fact of the matter is that during the entire playoffs Miami has benefitted from it whether they have won the games or not & it's not even debateable. During the Pacers series the only game that was officiated fairly was game 1 & that was only because the NBA knew that eyes were watching since the coach got fined for saying they flop like fishes out of water. Even with that DirtyWade got away with a clear flagrant 2 on Collison. The rest of the games there were techs called left & right on Granger( at least 2 of which were for him getting in LeFemaleDog's face after he threw an elbow), that's the kind of crap that if it were most other teams would have been called a double tech on both players. Then we have the Haslem flagrant 2 that only got upgraded a day late & a dollar short & the countless other fouls, etc. that were called on the Pacers while the same fouls were not called on them. I don't even like the Knicks enough to have paid attention past game 1 to what were probably more evidence of the same. It's been clear since the start of the season who the NBA wants in the finals from the East & guess what, it ain't the Celtics or the Pacers,or Knicks....I'll even go far enough to say it wasn't the Hawks or Philly either which is why we benefitted from a little bit of unfair reffing ourselves. Truth be told if Rose didn't go down we probably wouldn't even be in the ECF because the matchup they wanted was Heat vs Bulls.

As far as our series so far,It's not just about the 5 BS techs on the Celtics, it's also the blatant non-calls in our favor as well. Miami was getting away with fouls(on Pierce, Rondo & Bass), travels, delay of games, taunting, & whining to the refs, that were far worse than anything that Ray or Doc did or said to warrant a tech (see Master Splinter, Haslem & LeFemaleDog), yet somehow their whistles got lost up the Heat's behinds or something! Right? That must be it! ::).
We were still tied at the half despite the obvious unfairness of the refs whistles so we do not lay blameless in the loss... us getting outrebounded, missing jumpers & free throws clearly didn't help our cause but let us NOT act like Miami would have been "just better. Period" if they had gotten nearly as much flack as we did. And please don't act like those bunch of gimme calls against the Heat late in the 4th somehow negate everything that they got away with prior to that simply because at the end of the game the foul shots were close to even.

Moranis,

So, you are telling me that Lebron doesn't touch the ball after his break away dunks (and then hanging unnecessarily on the rim) like KG did when called for the team technical???  Really?  You said you watched the game, but you somehow missed Lebron doing that????? and he did NOT get a technical for touching the ball OR for hanging on the rim when NO ONE was anywhere near him or under him.

Smitty77
KG got a delay of game tech for hitting the ball away.  It is the actual definition of delay of game.  It is a call that often isn't made, but according to the rule book it was the correct call.

What's in the rule book isn't the issue, whether those rules are enforced the same way on both ends of the court is. He doesn't have an issue with the call on KG if they make the same call on the Heat.

I watched the tape twice & counted 13 DOG's by Miami, but never were they even warned.

You probably noticed a few Heat players complaining more than Ray did without getting techs as well.

So it is a call that often is not made, in fact I would say hardly ever made, but the refs decide that the first game of the ECF is the right time to call a tech on the Celtics? I agree with many here that the refs did not decide the outcome of the game last night. However, the technical fouls were absolutely absurd. Almost as absurd as the 26 techs against the Heat opponents versus 6 against the Heat during the playoffs. I don't think games are fixed and I do not believe in conspiracy theories, but I do know that if the Heat do not win the championship this year, their South Beach talent will be the laughingstock of the basketball world. That would not be good for Mr. Stern.

  • You say when......
NOT true at all..if you watched the game....you saw rondo and pp get hammered constantly on the way to the hoop, while dribbling...same with bass..and kg.....when the heat go in like that..it is ALWAYS a foul...then the techs.....they perfectly stem a run, and the momentum from a team..any team....this is soo corrupt...it really is hard to watch....getting the same as the wwwf.....and fixed pro boxing....i could handle a loss..if it wasn't sooo controlled by the refs.....the nba gets worse every year....

Well, without officially using a stopwatch, that was absolutely the latest whistle I've seen in a basketball game, and I'd bet that BOS would be upset, too - not just the Heat.

Why BOS? Pietrus played good D on Lebron during that stanza...only to get a very late whistle in response.

As with my extended post - the litany of calls/techs that went AGAINST BOS...against ANY team - can certainly serve to mentally affect a team - ANY team.

Wouldn't you agree?

EDIT - also - with your boldened section - aren't these refs seasoned by this time in the playoffs? I'm reading your boldened part to mean that refs see different things...I'm I right?

If I am right in my assumption - isn't it time, by now, that refs wouldn't be officiating any differently, or switching/swapping roles, etc - in a EC Finals?

IMO, that wouldn't be a smart time to choose to switch roles.

You could see it's a foul if you watched the replay closely.

I'm more p---ed about the refs in the last two minutes of OT than any of the technical fouls on Monday...this game was flat out stolen from Boston.

Miami gets more help from the officials than any franchise I've ever seen in 40 years of watching NBA basketball. Wade gets away with two CLEAR fouls and the game turns.

It's incredible how corrupt this game has become.

And the refs woulod have found a way to take those chances away if it meant the Heat would lose. It was obvious tonight imo

Absolutely agree 100%. Any lingering doubt (hope) that the bad calls in game 1 were not intentional, crooked, game-altering calls are now completely eliminated. The NBA is as crooked as a league can get. Lose the game, fine. But earn the loss yourself. The threads should be about Doc's coaching or KG choking or the bench play...but the fact those items are way behind the officiating is disgusting.

I think I am too.  C's suffered a 4 point swing on that.  also blew the kick out by Wade.  again, poor officiating in favor of the Heat.

It's not whining, just basic observation
