This thread = fail.

I suppose Wade isn't s dirty player either.

The only people who thought this was an evenly called game were the heat, refs, and the op

  • It's all about the TEAM!
I think bad reffing leads to player and coach frustration also. These players are professionals but also human too. I think it affected some of their play, I can't say for certain it did but it would have been nice to see if it would have without the Refs interference. We will never know unfortunately.

TP

Technicals are like a spanking from a parent for being a bad boy. The Celtics were called bad boys 5 times and the Heat 0. The Celtics already had everything stacked against them before they ever walked onto the floor last night. They just came off a 7 game series two days earlier. Flew to Miami. Didn't practice. Had to play in hostile Miami and have to play against 2 of the greatest players in the world.

And to add insult to that mountain...

They have to deal with Refs who were CLEARLYaffecting the game! Who were clearly getting into the minds of the Celtics. Who were clearly being shown that they were not going to allow the Celtics anything.

It psychologically effected the Celtics.

We would have lost anyway the way we played. But you can't have refs helping to decide games like that. The Refs are supposed to be impartial.

Controlling behavior like that on 1 SIDE is clearly NOT impartial.
The Celtics aren't quitters. Why should you be? - blind homer

It is indeed laughable to assert that last night's game was "fairly reffed," and you can't base any analysis of any game off a boxscore. Most of it tells you about the same amount of information as sabremetrics: nothing.

What was beyond obvious was this: The officials were intent on influencing momentum in the game in the first three quarters, which they did adroitly with the wildly uneven application of technical fouls - the David Stern playbook.

Meanwhile, there were numerous incidents that should have been T'd, as established by the quick whistles earlier: James taunting, Spolestra running wildly down the sidelines, James screaming at an official after a foul call.

When I was on the bench, I considered it my responsibility to make sure what happened last night didn't continue, so this thing is on Doc.

Many is the time I told an official, "Even it out or I'm going to publicly embarrass you." And there were two occasions where I'd just had enough, and I chased an official to center court to berate him, knowing full well I was going to get tossed but knowing full well how that kind of a demonstration embarrasses an official - particularly in this league where significant doubts already exist about the honesty of the officiating.

Doc failed his team last night. He should have gone after Ed Malloy and sent a clear message to the league that this Miami-is-predetermined-to-win crap isn't going to be tolerated quietly. Good for Doc for taking it to the press, fine or whatever notwithstanding. But make sure in-game that you're done with the officials, Doc.

We played poorly for three quarters last night. But don't tell me that game was evenly officiated. That's absurd.

I agree with you that Doc should have done more about this last night.  Probably would have required him getting tossed but that's about what it would have taken to draw as much attention to it as possible.  None of those techs were deserved.

Take those points away and C's are leading at halftime.  I think that would have provided a major boost to the C's and psychological impact on the Heat if the C's were ahead at halftime despite the lopsided officiating.

I absolutely watched the game and felt that the Doc and Allen technicals were bad calls, but felt the rest of the game was absolutely reffed fairly.  There were some bad calls going against each team, it happens, but it wasn't clearly one sided at all.

And sure you can't just look at a box score, but when the box score matches your impression it is pretty good evidence.

The officials and T's were bad.

But the team lost because of the list of other issues presented in this thread.

The no calls were just as bad. Bass and pierce hot mugged everytime they drove in the paint.

Basketball is all about momentum. But when the other team is allowed to bully and be physical with you and on the other end you aren't..its hard to overcome that..

I'm expecting a better reffed game 2..because there's a lot of criticism today of the officiating last nghy.  Even adrian peterson thought ot was rediculous

Heat attacked the rim alot more then the Celtics, and it did not translate to a conga line at the charity strip.

The officials were allowing physical play last night.

Exactly.  Both teams were allowed to be a bit rougher than previous series and both teams had plays where there could have easily been a foul called that was not.

The game was officiated fairly.  The only truly bad calls were the technical on Doc and the technical on Ray.

You know it's bad when the analysts who aren't even on Boston's side to win the game said the refs were horrible.

Miami = 21 fouls
Boston = 19 fouls

Miami = 16 of 23 from the line
Boston = 11 of 21 from the line

Miami = 50% overall just 20% from three
Boston = 39.5% overall and 28.6% from three

Miami = 48 rebounds, 13 offensive
Boston = 33 rebounds, 10 offensive

It is clear why Boston lost this game and it had nothing to do with officiating.  This board needs to get over it and quit being whining crybabies, especially when it had absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of the game.  Miami just dominated Boston on the boards and hit their shots.  Boston did not.  Period.  End of discussion.

Both statements are true. Miami played better and the refs stunk.

It psychologically effected the Celtics.
Which is clearly attested to by us scoring only 35 points in the second quarter.

I find posts like this fairly irritating. Why do posters have to be called whining crybabies just because they do not share your opinion? Yours is not better than anyone else's.

No it is not clear that the officiating had nothing to do with the outcomes. So many things go into determining the outcomes of a game and yes the can officials influence that whether by the timing and type of fouls they call and who they call them on. Everyone one who watches the game can see that. Putting up fouls and FT attempts tells us little about the officiating last night and proves nothing. What is up for debate is how much it contributed to the loss and everyone's mileage will vary on that.
