Trading up Rumor possible targets

Taking a brake from the present and looking to the future...

There has been a rumor out there that the Cs are inquiring about moving up in this draft as are the Rockets. With the possibility of the Cs moving from 21+22 up to probably the 12-15 range.

Possible trades being

Bucks 12 for 21+22+ JJJ/moore or future 2nd

Suns 13 for 21+22+ JJJ/moore or future 2nd

Phili 15+45 for 21+22+51

Houston its only likely we trade into the 14 spot if another team is involved. Don't see the rockets wanting 3 guaranteed rookies next season

With that said these are the players who could potentially be available if the Cs trade up

8 player who will not drop out of top 12
A Davis
T Robinson
M Kidd-Gilchrist
B Beal
H Barnes
A Drummond

These players will likely go between 8-15 and could be targets for the Cs to move up for

J Sullinger   Ive already go on and on how I think he will be a great fit as a C/PF and give the Cs a legit post scorer

P Jones III   Super Star potential but high risk, if he was any motor Rondo could make him a perrenail allstar, scares me with likely hood to bust
 
T Jones    not super high on him but a future combo of Jones and J Green at 3+4 with Rondo and AB pushing the pace would be interesting to see teams match up with

J Lamb     Ideal physical attributes at SG and has the length to play some 3

J Henson   alot like JJJ, I think strength will always be an issue, prefer not to trade up for him

T Zeller   perfect fit for current rost, could come in and start next season, 12pt 7rb guy as rookie, but lower potential ceiling then the rest of top 15

T Ross     will be an above average scorer in the NBA, athletic with good size

Moe Harkless     Dark Horse, I really think he is going to climb draft boards after the combine and private workouts, he has all the physical traits of an elite SF just needs to show enough perimeter skills


Players I dont think the Cs trade up for

A Rivers    redundant with AB and create team problems because of Doc
D Lillard   can't see danny moving up for PG
K Marshall  can't see danny moving up for PG


If the Cs do a 2 for 1 trade in the first I would also like to see them try to get a pick in the 35-45 rang in the 2nd. This draft has a solid group of role players who have little potential to develop further but who will definetly be bench contributors in the NBA.

I don't think that's necessarily true. Not only does Bradley play well with Rondo, but I heard Ainge say that Bradley's game is well suited to play alongside another combo guard. You could play a 3 guard rotation of Rondo, Rivers, & Bradley, giving each around 32 mpg. While they might be a smallish trio, this would be reminiscent of the old Pistons (Thomas, Dumars, Microwave), where each brought a different element to the table. Not a bad problem to have if you're Doc.

Also a very good point, and it was give us a player that could create his own shot.  Right now we only got one of those.

easier said then done, there are not to many bigs on the trading block that don't have serious flaws, and this team cant be taking on any older vets unless they are really cheap (cant trade 1st rd picks for guys past there primes)

rebounding would become a serious issue with this lineup as would defense. Where NBA SGs and C are getting smaller 3s are getting bigger most teams start a 6'7 + SF. The pistons worked because they had elite rebounders at PF and C. If the Cs look to get a wing I would prefer a 2/3 like J Lamb or Ross.

Also interesting to see that he thinks Dion Water is being over hyped as a possible top 10 (I agree) and that Terrance Ross's agent is confident he will go between 6-11 (wouldnt shock me). Givony says that Ross's agent is usually right with this stuff.

I dont see anybody in the draft helping us out in the near future unless we are planning to enter rebuilding mode. With Doc's philosophy of not giving rookies time, we should trade them off for the best proven veteran big man we can get.

why trade for a vet big man when next year's roster is unlikely to be a contender?

At this point after watching this team in the playoffs, a lot of current players I would have considered bringing back (Ray, Pietrus, Sasha) should just be let go so we can start getting some younger, more DURABLE players on the team.  Unless Danny pulls together some grand scheme where we're in the discussions with Miami and Chicago as the best in the East, I'd pass on trading those picks for yet another veteran.
