to answer the question, Yes i would take amare. He would be a huge risk and there is no way short for trading pierce or Rondo that I can see a deal working. Giving up either would make the trade pointless.
As for the Knicks they have created a mess of a roster. Chandler is a great defensive 5. After that you have scoring first 3/4 in melo, a scoring first 4/5 in amare, and a scoring PG in Linn. That makes 3 of your top 4 players defensive liabilities who dont really create for others. To make matters worse Melo and Linn are both super popular and unlikely to be traded without major backlash from the fans. Amare is highly paid for 3 more years and a huge injury risk.
I honestly don't know where they start with cleaning up this team. But here is my shot at it
Trade Linn to Toronto (deal with the fan hate)
For Calderon and a future first (or possibly get toronto at 8 to trade down to to houston at 14 + 16, then the 14th goes to NY)
Trade Amare to option A.Detriot option B Orlando
For A. Detriot T Prince, Charlie V, and a filler
For B. Orlando S&T Ryan Anderson and H Turkoglu
both A + B involve taking on bad contracts but thats the price of shedding amare.
2013 Knicks
option A
Chandler
Melo
Prince
Shumpert
Calderon
6th JR SMith
7th Fields
8th Novak
9th Charlie V
2013 Knicks
option B
Chandler
Anderson
Melo
Shumpert
Calderon
6th JR SMith
7th Turkaglu
8th Fields
9th Novak
Neither option great but definitely better then what they have. If the calderon deal involved a 2012 first rd pick then it would give the knicks a chance to grab a good youg PF. Henson, Jones etc in the draft.
