Rather surprised a ruling by the league on a suspension didn't come down today before the close of business in NY.

With his history kicking him out for the rest of the year is a no brainer.  He has what 13 suspensions? ???

He shouldb't even be playing NBA ...but if not he'd be in the fed pen for murder or something, so for the sake of society we let scum like him stay in the NBA

He should be done and it is a no brainer.  A rabbit punch is not allowed in boxing and it's a blow to the back of the head.  An elbow is much worse than a punch.  They do not even allow this in MMA.   In short, this kind of play has no place in basketball and Peace should not be part of his name, period.

He didn't have to throw the elbow but he did.   He should be punished but Sterno loves the Fakers.

honestly, if a person had done this to someone else on the street, would anyone here question whether the police should arrest him?

i dont know why the policy arent knocking on world peace's door now to arrest him.

world peace knowingly threw an elbow, and threw it hard, at someone's head after how many suspensions for violence in the past? how many violent incidents in the past? when is the next time he hurts someone?

why take a chance with someone else's health? i hope stern bans him from the nba for life for his repeated violence.

Because there's legal distinctions between actions in sport and actions outside of it. I'm sure... ?Roy? would have more details.

Having said that, I agree. I think a postseason suspension is entirely justified. Especially given he's continuing along the line of "it was an accident" and not taking any responsibility.

Wow.. Didn't really think Kendrick Perkins broke my nose.... Super sore... Basketball too emotional .......

I just watched the replay again..... Oooo.. My celebration of the dunk really was too much... Didn't even see James ..... Omg... Looks bad

Hope James Hardin is ok... I remember when I hit by Marc Gasol the same way.. I was spitting up blood and a headache during the game...

These tweets ... Ridiculous. Why would a professional athlete want to use twitter, it just ends bad. Show some remorse and don't compare any experience you've made once.

I just hope Perk hit him really hard ... MWP is such a freakin moron ...

This. And it makes me think the penalty will be a lot more lenient then a lot of us might like. They need to throw the book at the guy. He's their enforcer so hit him with an enforcers suspension. See recent NHL discipline.

The punishment has to be consistent with suspensions that the NBA has handed out in the past.  I also think the punishment should be the same as what would be handed out if the victim were some scrub on the Warriors.  To do otherwise would be to add to the perception that the league treats stars differently by making the punishment vary depending on the quality of the player/team that was harmed.  To do otherwise would also fuel the belief that David Stern is an arbitrary fellow.

If it were a player without a history, then two games would be the standard penalty.  I would find that acceptable.  Kevin Love stomping Luis Scola would be an example.  But this is a player who has had a history, so it should be more than two games, contrary to those diehard Lakers fans who are poised to believe that anything more is proof that Stern is biased against the Lakers.

I would also set an upper bound on the suspension.  This should not be punished as badly as fighting/brawling.  So, I know there are those who will disagree, but I think the suspension should be less than the 15 games that Carmelo Anthony got in the 2006 Knicks-Nuggets brawl for punching Mardy Collins in the face.

Earlier in this thread, I suggested five games made sense, but I'll upgrade that to anywhere from five to ten.  I'd suggest the rest of the season with a minimum of ten games (including the post-season), so that if the Lakers have an early exit, the suspension will carry over to next season until he has sat out for ten games.

I have to agree with this.  Even though I would support suspension for the remainder of the season, I seriously doubt that is what will happen.

More likely it will be around a 3 - 5 game suspension.  I hope I am wrong though.  It really sends the wrong message to everyone (players, coaches, fans...) when something like that happens if there aren't serious consequences from that type of behavior.

****. I know right. I didn't expect to be in the majority, but I didn't expect so many crazy responses either. Saying Artest knew exactly what he'd hit swinging backwards because he's a basketball player, and they see differently than most people is funny as heck.

Do you guys really think pierce intended to punch the ref that time? I mean..he's a basket player. His vision is way better than most people. He would've known exactly where he would hit. Fact is athletes get emotional and physical. Stuff happens. Ron was wrong, but Ive watched multiple times and I saw it different. I saw it pretty much like my cousin...I mean, Ron Artest said lol.

Here i thought Ron Artest mastered the cheap shot artistry. The ones that look "accidental" but are in fact premeditated. He had slippage on national TV.

Harden was standing so close to him that their bodies were touching from neck to legs, so Ron, (refuse to call the guy "World Peace" anymore), knew exactly what he was doing. For anyone to suggest that it was somehow inadvertent or that Artest didn't know he was there, is just ludicrous.

Watch the video ... he knew who was there, how close he was, where his head was, and decided that if he looked away he could use the excuse later that it was an accident, and an emotional response. Anyone who knows his history knows that he's an immature punk, and always has been.

This honestly didn't surprise me, though it did disgust me. What I was truly surprised at was Coach Brown shaking his hand when they were reviewing the play, and the fans cheering him as he left the court. They saw the replay clearly on the jumbotron, and decided to take the low road right along with RA.

"Metta World Peace" ... such irony is truly rare. Bruce Bowen clips anyone?

You know what's funny as heck, you not seeing the difference of being in a zone CELEBRATING and someone INTENTIONALLY cocking back to deliver a blow! Now, that's funny!

Artest was in the moment celebrating his dunk. He continued celebrating pounding his chest even after the elbow. So...I still haven't heard a reason why the pierce punch wasn't worse.
