When league hands down punishment, it should demand World Peace drop the name that no longer fits.

i just watched world peace's elbow. my god, that was terrible. absolutely disgraceful.

no excuse for anyone to use violence like that. no excuse for anyone on a basketball court to use such violence.

and as the articles state, for world peace this is not an isolated action.

i cant see how he can be allowed to play in the playoffs after this.

the lakers just lost an important player and their playoff hopes get dimmed a bit.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Not saying it wasn't a terrible elbow, but it's an emotional game and sometimes you do things in the moment that you regret.  World Peace has actually changed a lot since his Pacer days, so I would be inclined to let this one slide.  My only problem is that he denied it was intentional.. It was clearly intentional.  I don't think he thought he'd give the guy a concussion tho..

But this type of stuff happens a lot, I mean KG kicks people in the balls and gets away with it...  I think World Peace should be suspended for the first round, and fined $25,000.

He was suspended for throwing an elbow in last years playoffs against the Mavs. He may have mellowed a little bit but he is still a punk. He should be out for the entire playoffs.

Agree. That elbow is worth the entire playoffs.

I can't understand people who think there shouldn't be a huge penalty for this. If that elbow had caught the right spot, harden could be dead. Yes, it's an emotional game, but it's also a game played by professionals who need to act like  professionals.

What would all of you think if he did this to KG or Paul and caused them to miss a few games? This is not the same as a kick to the groin or placing a foot under a guy coming down after he jumped. This was more than a cheap shot and he should be out for the playoffs and then some. He should have been gone for good after his actions in Indiana.

Stern needs to send a strong message to the punks like MWP and the Wade's of the league that this type of BS won't be tolerated.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

He probably watched the Jon Jones fight saturday night and got some ideas.

When ESPN showed artest's cheap shot highlights.... It was pretty striking that artest always seeks out the smallest player on the court in the most vulnerable situation.

The standard bearer for narcissism, phoniness, and stupid commentary, earvin johnson, was "embarrafsed" (as he said) by artest this year and "embarafsed" by Bynum last year. (He should listen to his own commentary if he wants to truly be embarassed)

Shouldn't depend on the extent of Harden's injury.  artest should be gone for this year and part of next.

I hope Harden in OK.  That was a vicious elbow.

Artest needs professional help. I used to think he was just an idiot but now I realize it's more than that. He needs a long suspension and his return should hinge on getting that help.

The league needs to clamp down on these dangerous fouls. Maybe it's time to introduce a flagrant 3 category for repeat offenders with extremely severe penalties for both players and teams. Sometimes the team needs to be responsible for the bad behavior of their players. The Lakers - Bynum (Wallace, Barea), Odom (outrageous Ray takedown), Ariza (Fernandez) and now Artest - have committed some of the most egregious flagrant fouls in my recent memory. At what point does the team need to take responsibility? I'm always worried one of our guards is going to get seriously hurt when we play them.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

He's been in therapy for quite some time and has spoken openly and frequently about it. But therapy isn't a magic bullet that takes away your darker impulses or issues sadly.

I was thinking 10 games , but given its like throwing a punch maybe more along the lines of Melo's 18 would be appropriate.

Don't forget this one:

Or this one (Artest on the receiving end this time):

That's always been a big difference between the Celtics and Lakers in my eyes.  When we "play tough" we get physical, body check guys, push them under the boards, cuss them out, etc.  When they "play tough" they inevitably start getting really, really dirty, especially with their elbows.  It's a difference in team culture, I think.

The best part is that their fans love to talk about how Pierce/KG/Perkins/etc. are all fake tough because of the difference you highlight fwf.

Personally I think that this elbow is worse than a punch.  Like I highlighted with the MMA clip, elbows can do much more damage than a punch when executed in the manor that Artest did yesterday.
