I think both trades are justifiable from a rebuilding perspective.  I'm glad we didn't make either of them.

I wouldnt watch another minute of celtics basketball if they traded pierce for that package
The ray deal was a no brainer and its unfortunate it didnt go through even more so that hes "not happy" about coming off the bench...entitled baby

Right. Because if that pick would turn out to be a superstar I'm sure you'll stick to your guns and still "wouldn't watch another minute of Celtics basketball".

Ray (to our knowledge) hasn't blasted the move publicly, and hasn't pouted when in the games.  It's hard for me to get on board with calling him an entitled baby, especially when he willingly sacrificed shots and stature to help us win a title.

Can't quite argue with you here, but look at it from a different perspective. Would you still be happy (considering you are a proponent of the hypothetical trade9 if that pick eventually turned into an average rotation player?

I wonder if Ray's "swollen" ankle has anything to do with recent events following the trade deadline... i cant even imagine his mental psyche after getting a call and being told, "You're going to Memphis" then getting a call back twenty minutes later saying, "Scratch that we cant get it done" basically like well we wanted a different direction and cant get it so we're stuck with you type of deal. Then coming back from injury and being told, "well, now you're going to come off the bench for the first time in 15 years".

Gotta be a tough time right now for Rayray, glad he is such a easy going professional who wants whats best for the team.

No, I don't like the Nets trade, just like I didn't many of our trades in past. However, that doesn't mean I would not watch the C's. Regardless of a bad trade or not, I'll always continue to stand by my team.

Now I wouldn't be surprised if the big 3 retire after this season

The inspired play is knowing "hey look, this is our last chance, let's get it done and leave on top"

Let's be honest do you think KG would have accepted moving to the 5 or Ray accepted a bench role otherwise?

It wouldn't shock me if
Pierce is amnestied or traded on draft day or involved in a S&T, only to retire shortly thereafter

My only concern is about Ainge's top 5 player theory

I think he's still trying to make a play for Dwight Howard some way

If we ended up with 4 first round draft picks, it wouldn't have shocked me if we simply kept the Nets 1st rounder and traded the other 3 in a package for Dwight Howard

OJ Mayo AND a 2012 first round pick just seems like too much to give up for Ray. I have to think Memphis pulled out of this one. Maybe they were offering a second rounder and DA was holding out for a first. A 2012 first and OJ Mayo would have been an incredible haul for a 36 yr. old Ray Allen. I do that in a millisecond.

Pierce would have been tough. Few honestly thought he would have the resurgence that he has had this season. Maybe it being post trade deadline isn't a coincidence though. Still if you're going to rebuild then that is how you do it because that is a great pick in this draft. Possibly getting a Barnes or Drummond? And having the added cap space? Wow.

Add that to a nice backcourt trio of Rondo, Bradley, and Mayo. Add in Green. And add in our own pick which would have became lottery. And add in the Clippers pick and the Memphis pick... Lol crazy.

So ultimately you have Rondo, Bradley, Mayo, two 2012 lottery picks, two other 2012 first round picks, maybe Green, And a ton of cap space.

What a class act Ray Allen is.  He has been constantly disrespected by this organization and he keeps it all to himself.

Something is going on in Memphis with Mayo.  My guess is management loves him, despite the fact Wallace wants to get him out of town.  This is two deadlines in a row where trades of Mayo were basically done, and fell apart at the last second, and I can't help but think it was because ownership pulled a Stern and shot them down after Wallace had them ready to go.

If either or both trades had been pulled off, I would've accepted that. I wouldn't have had the stones to pull the trigger though.

At the time I would have made them both and not given it a second thought, with hind sight, I still would have made the Allen deal, and probably would still have done the Pierce trade, but certainly would think long and hard about it.  A potential high lottery pick for a guy on his last legs is a lot to pass on.

How is he disrespected? If Randolph can up his level of play Memphis could very well win the whole thing. They're probably the most well rounded team in the league. Ray would have had a great shot at a title with them.

Pierce would have been the one who got hung out to dry.
