I do think Mayo is really athletic. At the combine he had a 41 inch vert, 30.5 inch vert (no step), 11.04 lane agility, and 3/4 court sprint of 3.14. By comparison, Bradley had a 37.5, 31.5, 11.47, and 3.14 in the same numbers.

I think he's athletic but not really athletic as you stated.  My issue with his combine numbers is that he doesn't play to them on the court.

I'm iffy on combine numbers in general for the NBA because I doubt the players really train for the drills like the NFL players do because there is a lot less riding on it.  There's also the matter that uberathletes like Wade come out looking less athletic than Mayo, which is just absurd.

adrian always keen to air our dirty laundry, doesn't help that there seems that there is someone the c's org that likes to talk

Adrian seems to be as good as it gets in terms of having real sources.  It appears to me that Danny talks to him directly, but I'd expect the less flattering or more controversial Celtics stuff usually comes from other teams.

OJ is athletic,

Trading pierce would have put a nail in the coffin for this season but it would have jump started the future. If the Draft lottery went our way we could have potentially ended up with say T Robinson. Next year the Cs could field a lineup of

Rondo
Bradly
Green
Robinson
Steimsma

Then our pick would have probably fallen to the teens with the loss of pierce.

Wasn't that pick Top 3 protected? How could you get Robinson with it, then?

A large part of this has to do with a players length. In basketball we tend to judge athleticism by the players ability to player over the rim. OJ mayo has an impressive vertical at 41" but his standing reach is only 8'3.5". D Wade has a reach of 8'6" and a vertical of 35". The reach difference makes Wade seem more athletic as he is quicker to reach his max height. He also is much more aggressive attacking the hoops and attempting to block shots.

Would have been completely ok with the Mayo and a pick for Ray trade. Pierce for an expiring and a lottery pick would have made me blown a gasket however.

1 Davis, 2 Drummond, 3 Kidd-Gilchrest.  MKG and AD could easily switch, but those are the three best NBA prospects in this draft.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Agree.  For someone so athletic, he looks average athletically on the court.  Plus he is allergic to the foul line.

Davis and MKG are locked up in top three. But Drummond could slide down a couple of spots as he has bust potential also.
Just like nbadraft.net's mock draft, Robinson could sneak into top three.

I'm thrilled that these two deals didn't happen, but it shows that this will be Ray Allen's final season in Boston.

Completely agree. I wonder if this means we'll go hard after Mayo next year.

I can understand RayRay for OJ, but Pierce for Okur and a pick?!

I couldn't imagine Pierce bringing in much more than that.

possibly, but I'd take Drummond over Robinson every day of the week.

I would've been fine with the Ray deal.  It's not like he's coming back next season and it wouldn't have made the Celtics much worse this season if at all and added a potential building piece.  Not a great building piece but at least a rotation player on a good team.

The Pierce trade, had it gone through, would have made me livid.  To New Jersey, so he could play out his final two years in the league playing next to schlubs in Brooklyn?  In all likelihood he would have asked for a trade but I wouldn't have liked to see him twist on the trading block much either.  This trade would have been wrong on so many levels that getting a good draft pick would've made no difference.  The Celtics are likely in for a long, painful rebuild regardless.  I would just like to see Pierce finish up his career here (with KG in two hopefully) before that arduous process happens.
