This Amare injury is going to prevent us from a shot at stealing this "washed up" 27yr old stud (stud in the right system).

What exactly Edwardo, do you think the "right system" for the snitchster is?

It would have been Rivers' system pre-Garnett/Thibs when defense was a 4-letter word.

We saw the perfect storm the year Iverson went to the Finals.  Problem is...Woodson is no Larry Brown.  (Neither is Rivers if his is what you're suggesting the right system is)  Chandler is no Mutombo.  And the snitchter is no Tyrone Hill on the boards.  Iverson, arguably the most talented offensive player of that era...Even with the perfect team to complement his talent...Still fell short.

You're not going to see a defense-challenged primadonna win a championship in this era...Regardless of the system.

Just another style that the Knicks are playing.  Like the Lin phenomenom..The league will catch up.

That 4-on-5 defensive philosophy only takes you so far regardless of the scheme.  Want confirmation?  Just ask Los Nash.

Melo would be a good fit for the triangle.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Carmello is Paul Pierce pre-Doc Rivers.

Pierce is a clear model for Carmelo to build on. But I'm not sure I see it; I always thought Pierce was pretty good about trying to get other people involved, but the results didn't really show  b/c of a poor supporting cast.

Melo wants to win, I don't see him as a player who is actively selfish. But I don't think he's nearly the team player Pierce is, and I'm not sure he can learn to be.

FOr a good 2 years, before Doc came on board, Pierce played a pretty selfish game and his shooting percentages dipped to the 40% level.

But I see your point about being a team player...Pierce did flash that when he was young. I havent even seen flashes with Melo.

Not stating the stats as the whole story or anything, but they point to a pictures that pretty much backs up what everyone has been saying; very similar scoring #'s, similar TS%'s, with Pierce generally being the better defender and slightly better passer.

Is there a triangle defense?

Offense isn't the issue.

And it only took 31 shots to get there!

Haha just checked Pierce's game log (took a while)

Last time he took more than 30 shots was February 16th 2006 in a double OT loss to the cavs. Pierce took 36 shots and had 50 points

Last time Melo took 30 shots. January 21st 2012.

He took 30 shots and had 25 points in a loss....wowza

If Pierce goes 17 for 31 and gets 39 and 10, people would be ready to build a statue for him.

Am just saying the idea that this guy is "washed up" is a complete joke. That's a solid game no matter how you cut it.

I think his "trick" is being the best playoff game scorer in the league. That's a he'll of a trick. Needs a KG next to him to get his head straight, but there's no one in the league I'd rather go to with 5 minutes left of a 86-85 Game 6. He was about to wear out his welcome in NY which would have allowed someone to steal him on the cheap. Too bad he's playing better now.

Well we'll never know cause Pierce will probably never take that many shots in a game again

Another thing that taints those numbers is the fact they blew a 15 point 4th quarter lead.

In any case it is ridiculous to say he's washed up. Maybe overrated, not that good, selfish etc makes more sense. Its not like he is that much different than the past few years he just doesn't seem to help his team as much as you'd think.

Melo full time at the 4 next to Tyson Chandler. If this team can find someone to bite on Amare - which I doubt they'll be able to do - next season, they're going to be really scary.

I love that idea so much.

Wonder if there's any team that would bite on Amare. Maybe Houston?

Something around Lowry, Kevin Martin for Amare and Shump

They'll need get a bigger stronger option at SF if they're going with that lineup full time.

I doubt they could get anything of value for Amar'e at this point.

They'd definitely need a different 3 that's for sure. But I'd imagine filling that role wouldn't be extremely difficult. Even a defensive minded 3 like Pietrus would help.

I think at this point, if they could dump Amare for pieces they should. Not that I think Amare is incapable of rebounding, but I do think Amare and Melo can't work. And because of the disparity in health I think you have to movee forward with Melo
