he isnt washed up.....he is just an over rated one trick pony.

I think his "trick" is being the best playoff game scorer in the league. That's a he'll of a trick. Needs a KG next to him to get his head straight, but there's no one in the league I'd rather go to with 5 minutes left of a 86-85 Game 6. He was about to wear out his welcome in NY which would have allowed someone to steal him on the cheap. Too bad he's playing better now.
Why do you say he is the 'best playoff game scorer'? I remember him trying to bull his way to the rim in the playoffs and ending up with an obvious charge called against him.

Melo is not washed up. He is very talented. He is probably a top 20 player in the league right now. Unfortunately, his good games are deceiving because the same style of play also leads to a lot of bad games. Just because his 3s dropped this game doesn't erase his general poor shooting from 3. He also continues to bull his way to rim only to finish with pathetic shot attempts that the defense can easily rebound since they can clog the lane against him.

He has the physical talent to be a top 10 player, but it seems to me that he doesn't have the bball IQ, drive or discipline to be that.

You would think that it would require playoff success first before calling someone the best playoff scorer.

Nevertheless, Melo is not a 'one trick pony'. He can do more than just score. People just expect too much from him. He is not in the same class as Kobe, Lebron, or Wade as far as wings go, but people often overreact to the hype around him and overstate his shortcomings. Melo is an all star level player. He is unimpressive if you compare him to people Like Lebron or Wade, but there are 30 starting SF in the league and it is easier to appreciate his various skills when comparing him to middle guys instead of to the top guys.

Still, I can't stand watching the guy regularly. So many ugly games. So many wild moves to the rim for zero points.
I totally agree.  Melo is not Lebron, but he isn't Danny Granger either.

Melo is 5th among SF's in assists per game.  He is 7th among SF's in rebounds per game.  He is 3rd among SF's in points per game.  He is 13th among SF's in steals per game.  He is even in the top 30 among SF's in blocks per game.  And this all SF's not just the ones that qualify.  He has a pretty solid overall game.  He can even defend fairly well when in the right system and motivated (which he seems to be now).
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah

Hey, if Melo can be a loser while never playing on a losing team, why can't he be washed up while dropping 30+ a game?

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Carmelo Anthony, there he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too talented for the lottery, and too flawed to win a chip.

This is phenomenally well-played, sir.

When the going gets weird, the weird become volume scorers.

When in doubt, trust Raoul Dukes. Watch for bats.

What Bench? Our playoff rotation consists of 3 bench players, Steimsma, Allen, and Pietrus, the rest wont play, ever.

Here's hoping he averages 45 points per game in the first round, and sends Lebron packing.

Top 5 scorer if he gets his head right. Get him while you can and surround him with the right guys. Washed up not nearly the right way to describe him. Head case in the wrong situation. Put him between Ray and KG the last few years and he would have won championships. Pierce for Melo is a no-brainer. He's built to lead the right team in the playoffs. Doc could very well be the perfect coach for him.

If we had done this trade we'd be playing tomorrow night.

Discuss.

Here is my problem with anything people say about Pierce hurting the Celts chances of advancing this year:

The Celts were down 1-0 in the first round this year when Rondo got ejected and Pierce put together one of the great playoff performances in Celtic history to win Game 2.  Without that win, the Celtics at the very best are trying to win Game 7 in Atlanta.

Are we sure the C's would have gotten to the second round with anyone other than Pierce for that pivotal Game 2?

If we had done this trade, we lose in the first round as Melo does every season.

And KG definitely retires.
