If we offer for Kaman, why not try and get Eric Gordon too? The Hornets have already said they don't expect him to resign and that way we could at least have his rights for next season. (RFA after this season) We could trade Ray + one of our expiring players (JO, Dooling, Wilcox) and the clippers 1st (they are just going to get better and better) plus who would we be taking in the late 20s that would be better than Caveman and Eric Gordon. Getting a guy like EG in my opinion would be worth giving up our first even (looking like the 16-17th pick. Not exactly "superstar")

New Orleans wanted a lot for eric gordon reportedly. And would probably have better offers than that.

As Kaman's name swirls, a reminder: @ChrisMannixSI reported NOLA's telling suitors it won't take on salary in deals. Makes buyout unlikely.

@YahooBDL.

Ugh.

I think it makes the buyout more likely because it limits the teams that are even capable of getting Kaman.  If you limit the possible destinations of Kaman only to teams with cap room, you hugely reduce the quality of the offers you're going to get.  Kaman is not the sort of player a bad team is going to give up a 1st rounder for.

Ugh.

Its a vague statement, but I think it just means they won't take on extra salary either this year or in the future for him.  I think they are absolutely willing to take back expiring deals that end up being less than what Kaman is making, which is what the C's would be offering.

My guess is some teams looked at Kaman as an opportunity to trade a longer contract for an expiring.

Ugh.

Is there anyone in the league who can afford that salary? Does anyone have a trade exception big enough?

I think that is pretty unrealistic there. If that is the case he isn't being traded.

The Pacers had. Toronto has it now, but obviously they aren't trading for Kaman.

I think New Orleans point is that they won't be taken more salary than what they're shipping out, not that they'll only trade him for a trade exception.

Wouldn't both JO and Wilcox's salaries be paid for by insurance since they are both season ending? If that's true they technically aren't taking back salary if we also give them 3 mill for Dooling.

Depends entirely on the insurance policy. Most won't pay out in the case of in season injury unrelated to basketball. In Jermaine's case I'd be shocked if they were able to insure his contract.

Why do people continue to mention Eric Gordon.  He's not going to be traded unless they are blown away with an offer.  He's a RFA (Restricted Free Agent) and therefore New Orleans can and will match any offe rhe gets.  That's the way it is....
