Ray should be untouchable, he has to retire as a Celtic.
I do not know, Ray is like Reggie Miller, he still has a privileged physical.
Reggie Miller 36/37 years remained to be a killer, Allen as well.
They are special players, and I repeat, Ray Allen is still the best shooter in the league, I do not understand these rumors.

Ray is a great shooter, and it would be nice if he could retire a Celtic.

But practically speaking, it just doesn't make sense.  Ray is at the end of his career, and he doesn' have much value to a team that isn't contending for a championship.  Ideally, at this point he should be coming off the bench and hitting big shots for some team looking to go on a deep playoff run.

If the Celtics can get any reasonably valuable future assets for him as they look to start rebuilding this summer, they should, all sentimentality aside.

Ray has to stay in Boston, and next year to resign for less ,money, nothing more.

Lets not forget that people are running a business here. Businesses try and make money, this one trys to win Rings (and of course money). If trading away Ray and assets means we get Josh Smith that is good for business in my eyes, and im sure it is good in alot of other peoples eyes.

Dont get me wrong I love the big 3 and Rondo and have since my mate got me into basketball towards the end of 06 and when the trade went down. And they won a ring together and should be inducted into the HoF together as well.

But they are getting close to the ends of their careers. Always sad to see great ones retire (look at Shaq) but if it means helping an organisation you love in the process i think Ray can live with himself for not retiring a Celtic.

Plus DA could always do a shifty and re sign him next season :P

Honestly, a first round pick or anything as or more valuable than that would be good business, too.  Ray's not helping us win a championship this season, and he's leaving for nothing in free agency this summer anyhow.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

Can't collect players like old cars, and keep them to far past their prime, as its a business. Would have been nice to keep Larry Bird as pet , but life goes on , and you make a new team to please a new generation of fan s as well.

Ray + Dooling  ;D ( wish) for JSmith is Robbery if we can get away with it.

Agreed! if Ray gets traded we're doomed, & so will the rest of the league if he goes to a contender. Ray just needs a Lebron or D-wade or Deron, Westbrook or even Rose type of creation around him & that team is instantly favorites to win it all. Rondo & Pierce need to work harder @ being creators.

I'm all for trading Ray if it helps us in the future.  But I agree is still an excellent player in the right situation.  Totally agree he would be awesome with the guys you just mentioned.

I am worried about trading Ray and this team just being mentally torn apart a la the Perk trade.

How do you guys see it going over w/ the team or Ray if he's traded? were talking someone who has the Joslin Center thing here and seems to be pretty rooted here.

am i the only one who thinks having a veteran presence on a rebuilding or young team is a good thing to have?

we always hear about young teams how they have to "mature" but having someone like RA, KG, PP to mentor the young guys can be just as valuable IMO

that being said, I would trade Ray Allen if it netted us Josh Smith

Great, if he wants to be here for good, I suggest Danny and Doc approach him about signing a 3 year $6M contract extension.

Looking forward, the reality is that the Cs need to choose between (a) free agents and (b) KG and Ray. There is not enough money for both.  Trading Ray and/or KG for another player now is smart business, if the team has decided to go with (a).

I also think it is smart business to use either the Cs or Clippers 1st round pick in a trade now.  That is why Danny accumulates these "chips" is to potentially use them in a trade.

Coaches can do that for a young team.  Would you rather have KG or Ray or PP as that presence.  You do not need all three.  I would choose if we kept one of them KG because of his defensive intensity.  However, PP deserves to be here the most.

I agree with your line of thinking. Either way, Ray Allen is the odd man out, the one with the smallest contract this year, and the one most likely to be traded by the deadline (of the Big Three).

I would do Ray, Bass, and picks for JSmoove any day of the week. Pietrus is more than capable to step in, and while he isn't as good a scorer, he can shoot threes and is better defensively.

the future is now..ray deserves to be a celtic, i say we give it a last shot ,moves can be made in the offseason when there is no chemistry to be broken, not now..and trade him for what? jsmith and draft picks?no way he can thrive in our  system just now..when you say this is business, a business with no compassion is all bogus..there's nothing anyway out there that can impact us more than we could do on our own, so why fix something if it ain't broke?

When you are 30th in rebounding and pts in in the paint and offensive boards. Im pretty sure something seems broken there. Granted over the past couple of years we havnt been a great rebounding team, but taking away a non driving jump shooter for a guy that really should have been an all star this year is an improvement in my eyes.

Trade Ray Allen? You guys have any idea how difficult it is to find as reliable a 3 point shooter as Ray Allen? Every contending team needs someone like him, and he really keeps himself in shape. He may not be quite as fast as he use to be, but he's got killer endurance and he really makes the other guys out on the court chasing him around tired as hell.

I really don't think trading Ray would be smart. In fact, it would be pretty stupid, in my view. At most you make him one of the core pieces of a bench squad, but you sure as hell don't trade the guy. And Ray Allen's defensive abilities are vastly underrated. What he often does on some premiere players is astonishing. Ray doesn't have speed, amazing jumping ability, but he knows how to play defense and crowd a guy properly. He more than makes up for what he lacks with speed and athleticism with intelligence and consistency.

Ray is a piece that all championship teams want. Do people really think we can actually get back what we lose from giving away Allen? When Ray's on his game, and firing accurately, this Celtics team is [dang] near impossible to beat. I'm not sure why more people don't see this.

Because ray has been and always will be the scapegoat when the team loses
its been that way since he got here.

He's shooting 50% basically from everywhere on the floor,

Contrary to beliefs,  while he does not do well on closing out on defenders, he still plays underrated defense

And he helps rondo with floor spacing which is needed because rondo still has not learned to shoot.

He is 36 though, and I understand he can be a valuable piece, so well see what happens

This is and has always been a game about team balance and chemistry, (when it comes to winning consistently, and please don't misread this into my saying that's what we're doing at the moment, cuz we're not), not how many superstars or near-perfect-for-the-position players you can stack your team with.

Ray is an incredibly positive influence not only on the court and with his work-ethic, but in the locker-room and outside as a mentor. He is also one of the best three-point shooters in the game, one of the best from the stripe, (especially in clutch situations), that has ever played the game, an under-rated defender, and one of the best, most active guys off the ball today, who makes opponents work their hineys off, (despite his age).

He's in excellent physical shape, rarely has a negative thing to say about anyone or anything, and just plain adds class, hard-work, intensity, and a striving for perfection to any team he's on. He certainly has his flaws, as all players do, but this guy is gold in the hand, and you don't get rid of someone like him for a roll-of-the-dice. There are many more expendable players on this team ... I hope it doesn't come down to that choice.
