I really doubt Kg will come off the bench to be a role player. I love the guy to death, but he has racked up enough minutes in probs one of the toughest positions to play. If he is happy doing it by all means keep him for the right deal to help JJ because he could help that kid immensly.

he could always start but only play 20-25 minutes a night (at least during the regular season).

This is very true. He is the kinda guy you want to keep around a team though. Especially to try and mold and help young players. Doubt we will ever see anyone with his intensity and passion again.

From Orlando sentinel:

There's a rumor circulating involving Howard, where the deal actually will come down March 1.

It goes something like this: The Magic send Howard, SF Hedo Turkoglu and Nelson to the Lakers; the Magic receive Bynum and Gasol. The salaries are close to matching up, making the deal work.

A third team, the Toronto Raptors, could be part of the deal or in a separate trade with the Magic, sending PG José Calderon to Orlando.

Could be a great deal for the Magic, under the circumstances. There are some obvious holes in the scenario or scenarios.

For one, what do the Raptors get out of it? But the biggest hole is this: Howard is apparently cool on joining Kobe in L.A.

Just heard this from very reliable souce: NJ Nets officials seriously doubt that the #Magic will trade @Dwighthoward before trade deadline.
Then NJ officials are stupid and are about to lose Dwight to LA.

If you're Orlando... why would you NOT trade him?  Unless you are absolutely convinced he's returning, you absolutely have to trade him.  And if you're absolutely convinced he's returning... then why doesn't he sign an extension?  They are at risk of getting nothing.  It's not like they can trade him in the offseason and get anything of value.  Why would Dwight agree to gut his new team when he could just sign with them?  Jersey would have enough cap space to sign Dwight in the offseason and they wouldn't have to give up Lopez or Brooks to do it.

You're preaching to the choir here.  I don't see any good reason the Magic would not trade Howard now while they can get the greatest possible return for him.

For their sake, I hope these reports are just posturing on their part to try and get better offers for Dwight.

if the c's wanna waste cap space next year why just trade for okaefor?, him and rondo would only be making less than 3 million more than gasol after a trade. Another option would be haywood and u would save around 2 mill if u had him and rondo.

Thats how much gasol would be paid after a trade, u can sub rondo contract plus some of the most horrendus nba contracts and still save money.

The more I think about this trade , the more it makes sense . Next years free agents has many capable PG's

Deron Williams   UFA
Steve Nash       UFA
Aaron Brooks     RFA
Chauncey Billups UFA
Andre Miller     UFA

When you look at the big men who are free agents for next year Dwight Howard is pretty much the only UFA out there, if you miss on him the next best options are Hibbert and McGee who are both restricted and their teams would match.

By trading Rondo for Gasol, you get your big man for the present and the future. People on here keep trying to age Gasol ,  but I just looked at his profile and he doesn't turn 32 until this summer. He has at least 3 or 4 more prime years left. He has already proven he is a championship caliber big man (should have been mvp in 2010)

Plus we would still have enough money to offer a max contract to Deron Williams or Offer Nash about 8 mil a year and still have enough money to fill out the roster ( resigning KG,Ray,Bass, Green )

Yes, the crop of free agent point guards this summer looks ideal for a team with a collection of veteran scorers who just need a capable veteran floor general to run the show and knock down some open shots.

As for Gasol, it's important to note that at this time he's less than a year older than KG was when he joined the Celtics in the summer of '07.

Do you look to trade Howard if you think he is genuinely on the fence and there is a 50% chance of him returning to Orlando?  I don't think going for the sure thing is always the wisest course.  For example, sometimes your best option is to gamble on an injury-prone player instead of an inferior player who is much more likely to stay healthy.

Gasol is legit and you need a star big man to do anything in this league.  So this year, it would make us a threat regardless of who took rondos role.

Exactly.
I think people don´t realize how good Gasol really is. He´s one of the top three big men in the game. For the next 2 years, he´s just as good to have on your team as Dwight Howard, maybe even better, depending on your priorities. We´re talking about a game-changer.

Ask yourself, if you could trade Rondo + JO for 2-3 years of Dwight Howard, would you do it?
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

I think a physical center would eat Gasol alive.  He is a good PF but a center that bangs could easily frustrate him.  Right now he gets to hide behind Bynum who takes the physical guys.   He has a nice skill set but he still is a whiner but gets flustered at a few elbows.

The only reason to make this trade is if you think we can still win this year.   If not pass.   This will only hurt our lotto chances in the future.

How many centers in the league actually "bang" on a regular basis?

(leaving aside any obvious innuendo-based responses)

Dwight
Bynum
maybe Bogut

thats it.....

This shouldn't be a reason not to trade for Gasol......

Don't know if this has been posted yet...but I saw on SS and R that Pau's averaging 19.8 pts, 10.5 rebs, 4.3 assists, and 1.3 steals over the last four games.

Even before this binge, his numbers weren't shabby at all.

I'd hate to see Rondo go, but with THIS latest rumor, our PG has now been associated with TWO top 10 players in the game in Pau and CP3.

Not bad company, at all. If this thing goes down, I'd love for BOS to somehow squeeze McRoberts out of the deal, too, but we'll see.

McRoberts is basically buried on the Laker's bench, and with the signing of Sheed, he'll probably be buried further.
