If there is any truth to this rumour, I would go for it with little hesitation.

Pau Gasol is borderline NBA 1st team material at a position that is more critical to success than the PG spot.

In terms of value you won't do better than swapping Rondo for Gasol.

I'm comfortable starting Bradley also. I think PP assumes a more point-forward style role and this team would work nicely around that.

This trade would make the Lakers pass the C's 17 championships...

I would agree with this.  Bynum will simply expand his game and be more dominant.  Meanwhile, Rondo will orchestrate.  Rondo is a top playoff performer, and that's what it's all about.

Pau is 32. I don't think the trade helps us. We aren't running a retirement home here
Yea, thats another point. Gasol is 32.

... which is why this is likely in the category of an "interim trade" i.e.: more of a short term move, with something bigger up the sleeve.

how does that help us to make a bigger move?

Because Pau has more value around the league than does Rondo.
Worst case scenario if this trade goes through is that Cs enter the offseason with Pau, Pierce, the young kids on contract, cap space, and/or the ability to resign Ray and KG (not sure what the cap holds will be and how that will impact the ability to sign a big name FA).

Consider this: If Howard ends up being traded to a team other than the Nets, then Deron likely walks. The Cs could look enticing to Deron (cap space to spend on Deron, plus All Stars on the Roster).  Cs might have to renounce the rights to one of KG or Ray Allen to make it work.
Celtics fan for life.

I just can't see the Lakers making that move.  I do think they might consider it if it included Bass and than Walton, Blake, or Artest from their end.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Bigs -
Wings -  Lebron James
Guards -

Or, as someone else mentioned, get Beasley.  If not Beasley, someone else.

Maybe Gasol/Pierce + our two picks for Howard/Turkoglu ?

Maybe, but if I were Orlando I might prefer Rondo and JJJ

Me too. What would orlando want an aging Pierce for?

Their owner is old, and wants to win now.  He's apparently indicated that he prefers veterans over young players.

I meant Rondo over Gasol, but that's a good point too

this is a bittersweet trade, coupled with crossed fingers and toes..it's a thought but highly doubtful, no way are we helping the lakers to improve, the same way they are to us..

Wow. I can't think of anyone that traded away a superstar and then won a ring.  The Lakers, but that's different.

When you trade away unhappy superstars you get 80 cents on the dollar if you're lucky, and then hopefully you get draft picks and pray they pan out

If you are really really really really lucky you get Marc Gasol

Maybe we're flipping Pau to old friend Memphis so they can take out the Lakers.  We take back Zach and Speights?

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Peter Vecsey and Hoopsworld are the only two sources. I'm sorry, but neither one of them qualifies as legitimate in my mind. Vecsey is probably just stirring things up with the old Hoopsworld inspired rumors.

Rondo/O'neal for Gasol is nice for the short term horrible moving forward. He's 32 y/o and making max money for the next 2 and a half years. I don't like this team enough after the trade to sacrifice our cap for the next 2 years.

I guess that explains why the team is so poorly run to begin with. If he wants to win now, he should find a way to keep Howard.

Rondo for Gasol... AGREED! The all this team needs to do next is sign Gilbert Arenas/ Allen Iverson :-* This will also attract Deron williams to this team next year & or even Dwight Howard!!!!
