Also, the idea that "the Lakers can trade Pau now because they have Rasheed" is laughable.  That's like saying the Blazers can trade Aldridge now because they signed Joel Pryzbilla.)

I have the opposite take on this.  Why would LAL have any interest in Sheed to begin with?  Because it's their backup plan in case they trade Pau.  Obviously Sheed is not going to replace Pau one for one, but he will fill a void.  Look at it from the C's side and it's the same thing really.  They'd be replacing Rondo with a Bradley or Dooling; pretty big downgrade.

This trade would make the Lakers pass the C's 17 championships...

I would agree with this.  Bynum will simply expand his game and be more dominant.  Meanwhile, Rondo will orchestrate.  Rondo is a top playoff performer, and that's what it's all about.
would that be the best backcourt in the nba?  it would certainly extend kobe's career, 3 very good defenders on team with bynum & rondo both young for the future
be a great trade for lakers

Which is pretty much why if this trade goes through I'm done with this franchise for a while. I'm so sick and tired of these trades that help our trade partners and hurt us. It is PAINFUL to see OKC flourishing the way they are and us floundering. And now Danny wants to do it again?

You're gonna trade a 25 year old All Star point guard under a great contract to the LAKERS??  Of all franchises?? Who's biggest weakness is the point guard position?? For a 32 year old Pau Gasol??

Yeah...I've had enough.
I think you're overstating Rondo's value.

Swapping an inconsistant PG who barely cracks the top 6 at a position that is literally STACKED with talent throughout the league for a top 3-4 PF/C is a steal value wise.

I think people are forgetting that even if we don't win this year with Gasol he is a piece that any contending team would be clamoring for. As apposed to Rondo's very limited interest across the league.

This way even if we do decide to completely blow it up we could dump Gasol for a combination of young talent and picks during the offseason if we so choose.

To me Gasol still has 3-4 dominant seasons left though...thats enough time to build a team around him and whatever combination of Ray/PP/KG sticks around.

I don't think I'm overstating anything. Take a look at any of the Lakers forums. They are currently salivating at the mouths at the thought of getting Rondo. He fixes their BIGGEST weakness. Say we trade Rondo. Who are you going to get that's better than him? I know you don't think we're also going to get Dwight Howard and Deron Williams? LOL!

Pau Gasol? Really? If we were talking about a Roy Hibbert, Deandre Jordan, Javale McGee type of guy then I wouldn't be so against it. We're an old team so it just makes sense for us to continue getting older  ::) On another note. You seriously think Pau Gasol wants to play in Boston? Just like when we acquired Jeff Green, the dude was miserable here and it showed. Its going to be the second half of last season ALL over again. We don't learn from mistakes, we just continue to make the same ones.

First of all, who cares if we don't upgrade at the PG spot? Rondo is an all star(inconsistant, but still an allstar) and he's hurting our team in several ways. It's a matter of fit not talent.

Second, I don't understand the enfatuation with these young athletic guys. Yes they would be nice to have but wouldn't you rather have a proven commodity that still has at least 5 years left in the tank AND also has higher trade value?

Third, Pau Gasol is a professional. He strikes me as the guy that will play hard no matter where he is. Hell he stuck it out on some REALLY bad memphis teams and was producing exceptionally well.

Who cares how it affects the Lakers? You trade for one reason and thats to improve your team. Whether its for the short term or the long term(or BOTH).

Who cares how it affects the Lakers? Most Celtics fans would. I'm not prepared to hand banner 17 to the Lakers so they can tie us. Sorry. This trade helps the Lakers more than it helps us.

You don't understand the infatuation with young athletic guys? Are you serious or are you joking?

Who cares if we don't upgrade the PG spot? What?

Pau Gasol is a professional? The same Pau Gasol who was an absolute disaster last post season because he found out his girlfriend cheated on him?

Thank God you're not a GM.

People really think Dwight Howard is gonna make it to free agency?

Deron and Dwight will be together on March 1st in either NJ or LA and to a lesser extent maybe NY.

And what team has the assets to get both of them through trade by the deadline? NJ is the only team capable of getting them together by March 1st. If Howard doesn't go to New Jersey and they don't trade D.Williams he's heading to free agency so not a bad consolation prize.

I personally think they both end up in NJ. But that recent rumor with NY trading Stat/Chandler or Melo/Chandler to Orlando for Howard also sounds plausible.

Then make the full offseason press to sign Williams.
Does Pau Gasol put Boston above Dallas to sign Deron Williams?

Deron is originally from the Dallas area and "inside sources" said if he didn't stay with NJN he would have interest in returning home.  Cuban let a lot of pieces go from his title team to free up space for Deron.  I think for Deron it's more than just "who's the better team to sign with next year" but rather where do I want to be (which is probably true of most players).

I just don't see why the Lakers would do this.  Doesn't make much sense to me b/ c of the front court hit. Hurts them a lot.

I forgot about the Dallas thing as well. There are so many options that make sense for either of them and unfortunately none of them are Boston.

If Danny knows we could have Deron and Dwight next year then do it.. But if we end up trading rondo for Pau and noting comes of it and next year were left with Paul Pau Bradley johnson and moore, things wont be looking to good. But if we somehow turn it into

Deron
Pierce
Green
Pau
Dwight

Wow what a team that would be.. I dont think KG and ray would want to sign anywhere else. That would be such a scary team! i know i'm dreaming cause we don't have the money to do that.. I still see Rondo for Deron williams heating up around the trade deadline.

Not possible (unless something ridiculous like Ray + fillers/picks for Deron and KG + picks for D12 + bad contract).

I think the Celtics would leap to the front of the pack this season if they landed Deron. Nobody on Miami could stop him. He could take everything Rose and Westbrook have and slug them back. Then he could possibly attract D12 (if the salaries match) here. If he leaves, let the rebuilding for #19 begin.

Dallas could be one thing but they need to have someone take Marion's contract which isn't to unrealistic because somebody could use the amesty on him and get rid of that contract and get cap space because of it. Idk whats going to happen I really think Danny is working the phones to try and get Deron to Boston to land Dwight in the off-season. He tried for Cp3 now the next best thing is Deron and we have an all-star PG to offer.

If he manages to pull this off, then that would be amazing. There is nothing amazing about trading Rondo for Pau.

as far as the dallas situation goes, cuban might be stuck with marion. I'm not sure in the new cba you can amnesty players that you trade for. marion tough sell with that contract.

As a Rondo fan, I'd hate to see him stuck in LA. Terrible fit for him.  And there's no way I could root for him in LA!

As a Celtic fan, I'd love Pau: great player.

That said is Pau @ $20 mil for the next 3 seasons going to give more than Rondo @ $11 mil for the same time period?

I'm not sold on the idea that Pau will act as free agent catnip for Deron Williams.

Celtics trading Rajon Rondo and Jermaine O’Neal for Pau Gasol if Lakers sign Rasheed Wallace.

Wonder if that's legit.

I saw that earlier...doesn't seem like any first hand information. Its a Twitter from Spain and it looks as though they just tweet whatever the hot rumor/news is in the NBA at the moment. They have no sources.

Man the more I think about this the more I think this deal is getting done.

Ainge's thinking (makes a ton of sense)

-Dwight wants to play with Gasol: http://www.hoops-nation.com/dwight-howard-wants-to-play-alongside-gasol-if-lakers-trade-for-him/
-Get Gasol in place.  Take a semi-run at it this year.
-If Dwight reaches free agency, you can make the pitch to him.
-If you get Dwight and Dwill to committ, amnesty Pierce.

-If you don't get Dwight.  You can easily trade Gasol to Houston for some scraps (Martin, Dragic, Budinger, Patterson, draft pick (s), etc ..Lowry off the table) and start the rebuild.

Slowly, I'm coming around to this.
