I would prefer to move Rondo for Deron.

But with that said, if Steve Blake's in the deal - or if there's another alterative I'm not aware of - I'd do this deal.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Peter Vecsey and Hoopsworld are the only two sources. I'm sorry, but neither one of them qualifies as legitimate in my mind. Vecsey is probably just stirring things up with the old Hoopsworld inspired rumors.

Rondo/O'neal for Gasol is nice for the short term horrible moving forward. He's 32 y/o and making max money for the next 2 and a half years. I don't like this team enough after the trade to sacrifice our cap for the next 2 years.

agreed.

I just wouldnt really understand this trade. Gasol is great but he is 32 himself.  If we trade away Rondo do we really think that Bradley can run our offense to be more of a contender than with Rondo? If we traded Rondo for Gasol there would have to be something else in the works involving Allen or Garnett for a big name point guard.

Yes gasol is 32 but I think he should age well for at least a couple more years.  One worry I have with rondo is that his body will be shot by the time he is 30 with the way he plays the game.

I would make the move.

Then make the full offseason press to sign Williams.

Or even go after Nash.

Does Pau Gasol put Boston above Dallas to sign Deron Williams?

Don't know.  Don't think so.  But Boston would have to try.

The Cs would be paying ~$8M a year more for the next two years after this deal.  It eats into the cap, but doesn't kill it.  It still leaves enough room to sign one max free agent this summer.
Celtics fan for life.

This trade would make the Lakers pass the C's 17 championships...

I would agree with this.  Bynum will simply expand his game and be more dominant.  Meanwhile, Rondo will orchestrate.  Rondo is a top playoff performer, and that's what it's all about.
would that be the best backcourt in the nba?  it would certainly extend kobe's career, 3 very good defenders on team with bynum & rondo both young for the future
be a great trade for lakers

I love Rondo and follow him since high school but can he be same player somewhere else like he is here? He has KG, PP, Allen but if he goes somewhere else, can he still be the player as he is now? No doubt he still be a top 10 PG but he may slip a little.

Which is pretty much why if this trade goes through I'm done with this franchise for a while. I'm so sick and tired of these trades that help our trade partners and hurt us. It is PAINFUL to see OKC flourishing the way they are and us floundering. And now Danny wants to do it again?

You're gonna trade a 25 year old All Star point guard under a great contract to the LAKERS??  Of all franchises?? Who's biggest weakness is the point guard position?? For a 32 year old Pau Gasol??

Yeah...I've had enough.

I realize that I just don't see us attracting free-agents who plan on competing long-term. In 2013 our "Big 3" will be 35, 37 and 36, respectively. What there attracts a 26/27 year old  who wants to contend for multiple seasons? I realize Dallas is old as well, but they have the hometown advantage and an owner known to pay whatever it takes to win.

I think you're overstating Rondo's value.

Swapping an inconsistant PG who barely cracks the top 6 at a position that is literally STACKED with talent throughout the league for a top 3-4 PF/C is a steal value wise.

I think people are forgetting that even if we don't win this year with Gasol he is a piece that any contending team would be clamoring for. As apposed to Rondo's very limited interest across the league.

This way even if we do decide to completely blow it up we could dump Gasol for a combination of young talent and picks during the offseason if we so choose.

To me Gasol still has 3-4 dominant seasons left though...thats enough time to build a team around him and whatever combination of Ray/PP/KG sticks around.
