Yes he could, but if I was 19 I'd want to force a trade to get as far away from my father as possible. San Francisco is looking nice all of a sudden. Do they have a team in Hawaii yet? Japan?

There's one other problem. If he actually comes to the Celts there is a very good chance something like this could happen to Austin or his Dad and the list of suspects could be long.....Stern, EtWaun Moore, the other team, Coach K, etc

Um, my first question is why would the Celtics want him?  There are A LOT of NBA people who believe the kid does nothing but shoot and when you look at his Duke games, that's all he really does.

Everyone talks about the UNC v. Duke game and his shooting but Austin Rivers got taken to school by Harrison Barnes.  Watch the 2nd half, Barnes drops a cool 23 pts on Rivers and Rivers for all his swagger looked like a 18 year old playing a smarter, stronger and more skilled player.

So Rivers cannot guard bigger players and he really isn't a point guard and he is not nearly quick enough to guard NBA PGs...so what is he?

He is a selfish player with an attitude and no real position.  He is Demarcus Cousins, with a famous dad, a jump shot and a Dukie attitude.  That is not a great combo.  He is JJ Reddick.  How is that working out?

Yeah, no thanks, Ill take Michael Kidd-Gilcrist or anyone who can actually guard someone playing in the NBA currently.

Thats a great picture, Rivers looks like a deer in headlights.  Did anyone else watch him v. NC State?

33 mins, 4-13 FGM-A, 2-8 3pM-A, 2 reb, 2 assists, 2 TOs and Lorenzo Brown dropped 19 on him from the point.

Or Maryland game:

40 mins 3-9 FGM-A, 3-6 3pM-A, 1 reb, 4 assists, 2 TOs

Not very impressive at all.

Now compare him to Harrison Barnes or Michael Kidd Gilcrist.

Its a no-brainer who you draft.  Its not Austin Rivers.

we have two first rounders around that area

hope we get him, hes better than the others in the draft around that spot

I would definitely draft Austin rivers at #19....you can teach defense. and im sure Doc would push him hard. You cant teach scoring like he can...look at Marshon Brooks who is flourishing right now..

with more coaching and maturity he will learn to pick and choose his shots and defend

i think we have a better chance than people may think , espeically with paul as a possible chip on draft night we may be able to get a 3rd pick in the 1st round im sure rivers is worth 2 1st rounders at this point & a player ,3 if we really REALLY want him being that

Pretty sure with David Stern as commissioner Austin would probably wake up with a ninja sword in his kidney

Say we have pick 15 and he's there... is there anyway we don't take him?  What an awkward Thanksgiving that would be.

Doc: Austin, pass the stuffing.
Austin:  Just like you passed on me?
Doc:  You're a shoot first point guard, son.
Austin: Then how about I shoot the stuffing to you!

Food fight ensues.

I could see Austin coming in for his interview and when asked how he'd like to play for the Celts responding with, "Actually I have no desire to play in Boston whatsoever'

I could also see him deciding to stay at Duke....you know...for education

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
It's just me. But I'd really rather take Brad Beal over him. I believe he's a much better scorer but Beal is more athletic, defensively better and as quick. He doesn't hit those clutch shots, or haven't seen him do it yet, but for me Beal has more upside than Austin, who I like too.

Although both of them are Top 10  so it'll be a stretch to get them. I don't what the Celtics have to trade up for them. I'm not sure either if Rivers can just force his way to Boston. I haven't seen that Eli Manning move in the NBA.
