The NBL is actually a joke. Its the most boring and depressing form of basketball to watch. There was a reason the league went bankrupt several years ago..... its rubbish

Father coaches are hardest on their sons most of the time.    I just don't see it happening for that reason.  It's a nice story though.

Kobe kind of did this. He made it known loud and clear he only wanted to go one place and Charlotte obliged. Teams passed him up cause they knew he would not sign.

The question i have is, if players have been known to do this in the past is it possible for them to do it now? Or has Stern managed to find a way to cut down on this trend? I know i dont hear much about it happening in recent drafts. But i guess its possible. Does anyone know?

how many combo guards can you fit onto one team??

please dont draft this kid.  if Avery Bradley keeps his play up and his jumpshot stays wet, I'll concede the two inches Austin has on him in height and take the relentless pressure D any day.

I'm all for best player available but I want size man, we need front court players

Im with you on this one...this draft should be deep with bigs too...I can see Zeller falling to the C's.

I can't believe anyone is seriously suggesting this as an option.  The pressure would be too great on him and Doc.  There isn't room for nepotism in the NBA, much less the celtics.  As great as a coach that I think Doc is, I don't think we should put that on him.

I think Austin should stay another year at least with Duke, to improve his overall game.

Zeller falling to us no thanks he made a bucket for the other team last night.   I thought Whit outplayed him.

If he continues to play like he has been playing recently he will float around the 13-20 mark imo. Draft express have him at 18 atm and the C's taking kendall Marshall at 17, but in all honesty if we keep rondo, bradley and Moore at the end of this year, what is the point of us drafting another PG.

Yeah, this makes no sense to me, either. And frankly, unless there's a sure-fire "next Ray Allen" in this year's draft, I want to see us draft nothing but bigs—real, legit bigs, none of these tweeners. We need some size and rebounding, ASAP.

Austin Rivers is not in the league of Eli Manning nor That Denver QB. Just because he won 1 game with a last minute miracle does not make him even a first round draft. His last name "Rivers" does not make him a special player, per se, and he as not done anything in College, so why the hype?
I hope we get rid of Doc next year, but in case he unfortunately stays, he would not need the distraction of having a son playing in the team he coaches; thats for sure. And the Celtics surely and distinctly do not need that distraction either. Sometimes, I do not understand the reasoning in the posts in here.

Unfortunately I could see us drafting a guy like Rivers. Doc and Ainge just love their guards (probably because they were both guards) and we've drafted a mess of them. Our rule seems to be backcourt in the first, bigs in the second. Celtics always place a huge emphasis on guardplay and it often leaves us wanting in the big man dept. To be fair, its hard to find a really good big after the lottery though. Honestly Id like to see them take a couple project bigs in the first round like a Zeller and Moultrie. We could keep one and trade the other if they pan out at all.

I have yet to read a straightforward and convincing explanation of why we would want to use a pick on him.

Let's not draft Gerald Green 2.0.

He's already a more complete player than Green.

If he's there for the late teens picks we have he'll be the BPA. I hope he goes earlier to spare the C's an ackward situation.

austin rivers is the type of guy that danny ainge likes. A high school stud who didnt pan out in college, and had his draft stock reduced. high ceiling, low-med risk, guard with all star potential.

check this out:

Avery bradley was ranked #1 in high school. draft stock tumbled making him attainable by us.

Austin rivers is ranked #3 in his high school class, and is attainable by us.

At our draft position you pick the best possible talent and player, regardless of position. You dont just draft a big guy because he's available. Centers outside of the top 15 can be pretty iffy at times and have high bust potential, and from the look of this draft, there seems to be a few of them floating around.

However if there is a good center or power forward available at our pick/s, or even maybe a sleeper that didn't have a good year in college, Im sure Danny will take our need for size into consideration.

at any position you are best off picking the best available talent, and dealing from there.  given two equal talents, then pick the position of need - but take who you think at that time has the most talent.
