To be fair to them, I think trading down is a much harder task than it sounds.

I've never found it to be a huge problem.  You just have to be aggressive in contacting other GMs, rather than them coming to you.

For instance, wdleehi has been trying to move up into the 1st from the 2.2.  I don't know what he was offering, but something is better than nothing.  I guarantee that Harrington would have been there at 2.2.

Just an update, not looking to move up anymore.

After lamenting the steep drop of talent in the past few picks, the Orlando Magic gleefully select their commander, floor general and point guard of the future in Jrue Holiday!

Sorry to those discussing trades with me, but I really love Jrue.
Great pick. Best player on the board.

Yeah, very smart choice.

Let me get in line to slap you on the back. Nice pick.

To be fair, a 76er should've been picked by now.

Hint, hint.

And actually, I'm talking myself in to the Young pick. It's a reach but not a bad one, depends on how much emphasis you place on age and upside.

Does Thad Young still have upside?  He seems to have plateaued to me.  His points per game have decreased for four straight years, and his points per minute are pretty level.  Rebounds and assists haven't fluctuated much, either.  Really the only thing that's changed in his game is that he's never asked to shoot the three any more.

And Hobbs talked me back out of the pick...

I think that Young would benefit from being paired with an elite pg due to his athleticism.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

At the same time, what's enough to move up?

Let's say you're sold on a player - are you willing to move back say into the early 2nd round for a 3rd and 4th round swap when we're starting to deal with 6th men?

For Al Harrington, I absolutely would have traded down.

I understand your point, though.  If there's a guy you're in love with, there's no sense in trading down for incremental value.

I've got zero problem with Ray Allen where he was drafted and consider Harden and Parker solid picks rather than steals. I suspect the rest of your "reach" list is right, I'd add DeAndre Jordan, but obviously there's a premium on front court talent.
I never labeled anything a reach or a steal.

I just said they were chosen higher and lower than I thought they would be.

The only steal I have seen in this draft is San Antonio dropping to the next to last pick in the team choices and, sorry Merovech, but I would say the only reach was Mo Williams.

I'm much less kind than nick is.  I'd classify Serge Ibaka and Al Harrington as fairly large reaches, as well.  I think each would have been there later if the GM involved wanted to trade down.

But whatever, this isn't graded.  There's nothing wrong with GMs drafting guys they like, even if they're not value picks.

To be fair to them, I think trading down is a much harder task than it sounds.
Looks like Evantime just did it as T Young was picked for NJ apparently. I have found little problem in trading down or up, so long as you do so while giving yourself plenty of time and just don't wait to the the minute.

Ya, that's been out an outlier. I think more times than not, making the selection is gong to be worth more than the small value you'd get in a 3rd or 4th round move up (which is really a 4th or 5th)

I'm selecting David West.

Good defender, and a very good floor stretcher to compliment Marc. Solid postgame to boot.
